As time goes by, it is clearer that it is not club's problem, but Frenkie.

He was a system player in Ajax team who were on fire.

Take him out of Ajax and he is another Arda or any player from Atletico.

His only virtues are endless running and getting the ball from his own half.
He is dead/useless in the opponent's half when we have the ball.
Plus, he has zero attacking instincts and his defending is very questionable both marking, heading and positioning wise.

For 3 years he is an absolute non factor in any big match.

Every La Masia kid gets too many credits.
Rakitic was massively hated too much for no reason.
Yet, future best two midfielders Frenkie and Arthur were defended for years.
Cou is hated till death even though he is as equally as meh/ghost as Frenkie.

He isn't an improvement even over Rakitic from his worst season.

Frenkie looks shiny on the eye test and he can fool you.
Yet in reality, he is a meh midfielder for possession game, his range of passing is limited, his vision is meh, he doesn't have attacking instincts and his defending is meh.

He has 3 virtues:
1. getting the ball out of our half
2. endless running
3. having 20 000 coins in the eyes of Barca's fans from the day1 for some reason

He was very far from a finished article when he came due to having a very specific role in Ten Haag's setup. Today he was "framed" by Koeman's tactics that put him on the rightwing, too isolated. He essentially played the Paulinho/Vidal role even though it doesn't suit him.

He is world class at what he does, but if we get an obscene offer like 110m-120m, I think we should let him go and make 3-4 great signings. A lot depends on selection and I don't really trust our management to do it though

Pep took a shitty team under Rijkaard and all of a sudden there was beautiful football with inexperienced Pedri Busquets and Pique, and under him Iniesta flowered from the first match. A good manager can do wonders to a team.

Actually, some of those are totally valid arguments. Dembele played with Suarez and Messi. Both lacked feet to hang with him. Everyone else snail speed. It's a problem.

When Arthur played for Barca we definitely lacked movement and no one was making runs.

People defend Frenkie, because he actually performs for us. Not every game, but often enough - especially considering how dysfunctional our team is. His recent form has been rather average after a good start though.

If anything I think he would suit the likes of Liverpool perfectly. Just someone who will run a lot and have some decent runs in the box from time to time.
