I said last year he was horrible, I said at the beginning of this year he was horrible, and I continue to say he is horrible.
He's not playing any worse than he was last year. He couldn't keep up with play at all last year and was clearly way out of his league. His goal/assist statistics last year were not representative of his ability. He generally was handed goals, or given easy assists. Nearly all his play was simply running in a straight line at a fast speed. He hardly contributed in any build up, he was just there to run and then kick a ball hard towards the box/net. Whether he happens to get tap in a goal in a CL final says ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about his overall ability. You don't judge by the tiniest of samples, you just by the season. It's insane and completely against statistics and any sort of rational reasoning to think otherwise.
I don't understand what people think the alternative is. That he simply became this bad for no reason? He forgot all the technical skills, lost all his vision? That's hardly realistic. You don't play in such an incredibly amateurish manner if you're one of the top players in the world. He is completely one dimensional, unaware of all his surroundings, and lacking in a meaningful understanding of the game.
I think the analogy that I honestly feel would best describe him would be that Bale plays like a 12 year old child is controlling him on a game of FIFA.
He wasn't good before, he isn't good now, and he never will be good. Time will surely continue to prove this.
