Barcelona have options to buy Gerard Deulofeu (21) back from Everton for 7.5M in 2016 and for 9M in 2017. In 2018, first option. [esport3]

Fontas has been really average not to say poor. But i understand the "charity" feelings regarding some transfers. I share them too.

Fontas has been nowhere near one of La Ligas best defenders the past few years and has found his level at Celta.

Trying to hard to make a point if making out Fontas has been that good.

Always seem to see Chelsea held up as some great example....they paid 50m for Torres, 35m for Shevcenko, let Matic leave for fuck all then paid a lot to get him back, bought Cuadrado for around 24m now dont seem to think he is good enough.

Every single club has good and bad signings/sales.

Fontas has definitely been of La Ligas best defenders in the last couple of years. Watch Celta sell him for 15-20m euros to some EPL team in the future.

Its not about making good or bad signings. Its about getting the right price for players. And we suck balls at it. Both buying and selling.

Shevchenko....How long was that ago?

So what if Cuadrado has been a flop for them? Lucho loves him and we probably would have signed him for 40m euros if Fiorentina had accepted, but they wanted even more money (because they know we can be taken for a ride) so we decided to pass. In the end, Chelsea bought him for less than we were willing to pay for him.

The difference between us and teams like Chelsea is that when a player flops for us, we loan him out until his contract expires (while paying some of his wages) while they sell for good prices, or hell, even profits.

Fontas??!!!

No chance, he has been exactly the level you would expect and wont go anywhere for 15-20m.

You have no idea how much Barca were willing to pay for Cuadrado and clearly they didnt want to pay what was being asked anyway.

Yes, Fontas. Watch some Celta games, and he is always one of the stand out players. He is the bedrock of their defence and one of the main reasons behind Celta's good performance over the last couple of years together with Nolito.

All reports in the media said we were willing to pay at least 40m euros for Cuadrado. Lucho was obsessed with him. Of course, we can choose to not believe it, but there is no reason to not believe it IMO.

Cuadrado is actually decent player just not mourinho type of player. I don't understand why he buys players like cuadrado and Felipe Luis and never stars them. I will think twice before moving to a team that is coached by mou.

You ar deluded in the Fontas subject. Preposterous. Reports in media? Oh yeah, the truth has risen.

I take Alves with 1 leg over Cuadrado.

I have watched plenty of Celta games and Fontas is bang average. Nowhere close to one of La Ligas top defenders. Nor has his level been close to Nolito. Their defence was a shambles at times this season... the Real game they lost 4-2 was some of the worst defending you will ever see in a game they dominated.

If anyone fucked up in Cuadrado deal with Fiorentina it was them not Barca who wouldnt pay the price they wanted. What that was is anyones guess.

Did you watch Fontas against Sevilla and Valencia a few weeks ago? If it wasnt for Fontas, Celta would have lost both games IMO, but Celta managed to get points from both teams because of Fontas being a rock in defence for them. Say what you want, but the way Fontas has performed over the last couple of seasons certainly warrants huge respect. If he goes to the EPL, he will easily go for 15m euros. He was always a greatly talented player, which he showed in Barca B's epic season where they got "promoted" to Primera.

Fontas wont be going anywhere for 15-20m. He is a Celta level player and wont go any higher than that as a starter.

If EPL teams rated him or wanted him they would go and get him for that sort of money, Celta would rip their arm off for it.

Fontas was in the hands of Pep when Barca were desperate for CBs and he barely even looked to use him. Using Busi, Adriano, Masch even a younger Bartra ahead of him.

Spare me this idea that Chelsea are geniuses at selling palyers. They let Matic go for next to nothing then paid 20 odd million to get him back, sold De Bruyne for 17m and he would now go far higher than that, sold Sturridge for 12m and he is worth far, far more now, sold Tore for 1m who is not being linked to EPL teams, Atletico etc for much higher price. They have even just sold Cech to Arsenal for 11m! A top GK with 3/4 years at least left at top level.

We all know the point Jombi is making. Don't get side-tracked with the Fontas debate.

Everyone knows we are shite when it comes to getting a fair price for one of our players.

It's scandalous really. :shakeshead:

Fontas is Celta's most important player together with Nolito. That's just a fact. And Celta is an upper half team in the best league in the world who can beat any team on a good day. Fontas has been great for Celta for two seasons now. Most followers of La Liga has been impressed with him.

33 year old Cech to Arsenal for 17m euros is a good price IMO. He might have 3 or 4 years left, but he might also have only 1 or 2 years left. Not all goalies play until 37. We usually always just loan out our bench players until their contract expires while paying their salaries. Far worse IMO. I cant remember the last time we made a great sale.

Like it or not it is fairly easy for top european teams and majority of EPL teams to take players from the likes of Celta.

None of them are showing any interest in paying 15-20m for Fontas and for good reason. You are way off by how highly you seem to rate him in a way no one else does.

Nowhere near the Spanish squad or near to a big money move. He is bang average.

How can you spin the Cech deal that way when we literally would have let him go for free or two million (Villa, Keita, Henry...)

Keita left for free from clause in his contract, Villa was almost done, wanted to stay in Spain and about to get a big wage increase when declining and Henry was completely past his best.

Cech has potentially 3/4 years left as one of the best in the world at his position. None of the others had that you mentioned.
