Gerardo "Tata" Martino

The fact Alexis is here now for his 3rd year, accustomed to how we play and his teammates doesn't have a place in your argumentation? Tata > Pep? Sorry, he still has a lot to do before I believe that.

That Pep smiley made me think he wasnt being serious

Tata deserves high marks for his first half season, even if Barca loses at AM Sunday.

His #1 job was to not screw up this fantastic team. Grade: A

Integrate Neymar: A. Easing him in was a huge success, I think you can make a strong argument that he is already the second best player on the team. I expect a huge second half from Neymar.

Man management: A. So many of the players are performing at a very high level now. The rotation policy is clearly superior to how this was managed by Tito or Pep. No one was overplayed in the first half, despite injuries at most positions. The competition for playing time has the first subs at CB, the two offensive midfield positions and the two wing forward spots playing so well that Tata has to exclude completely deserving players from his first 11. The two FB subs and Song have also played quite well, Pinto has been OK. Tata has not been been able to get Puyol to be younger, and Tello and Roberto have been beaten out for playing time, but these things are going to happen.

Results: If lose to AM: B+. Great in CL and Copa, 49 points and AM at home in the second half is hard to complain about in Liga. If Win at AM: A+.

His image, his marketing are not at Pep level, but Pep was second to none in those areas.

Can't help but loving Tata's decisions currently. He's been bold, active, innovative, and flexible. Cesc at false 9 has been altered since he is now just a roaming midfielder, with Alexis and Pedro (or Neymar) taking position as wide forwards instead of wingers with the option to move around. We take advantage of our quick transitional play which utilizes the technical ability and vision all of our players have. Other times, when needed, we are fully capable of playing the distribution game where players slow things down before finding an opening.

Both types of play have their advantages and we've been able to alter between both within games and specific situations. These are our real plan A/B strategies and they are proving to be very effective. If we add an X factor #9 type player maybe next season (wouldn't mind Dongou tbh) then we'll be able to rotate between several different systems at will and completely lose the predictability and staleness we've picked up in recent seasons.

From his comments after the game tonight it seems like he may really be stressing out about what team to pick in Saturday!

No idea who he will leave out!

Martino: "Yellow Juanfran revoked, can play on Saturday? I start to understand how the revoking system works, same happened with Ramos."

What a badass.

The pressure of managing Barcelona or Real Madrid is INCOMPARABLE with ANY other club in the world and the stats prove it:

Barça in 29 official games this season: 23W, 4D, 2L 81-19

Imagine a manager at any other league being criticized so much with stats like these!? Won't happen. Ever.

I'm impressed by Tata that he still holds on, despite the apocalyptic reactions after the two defeats in a week.

I'm impressed with Tata too.
Since the beginning of the season he had lots of problems to deal with.
For instance the huge queue of injured and not in-form players.
But he managed to lead the team so well that just few points were lost.
He, also, got the best out of Pedro, Alexis, Cesc, etc.
He eased Neymar's way to the team and made him a lethal key for Blaugrana.
He's rotation is very good as well. There are just 3 players who haven't played so far this
season: Oier, Afellay snd Cuenca, with the last two being injured all the season.
He's a better tactician than Ancelotti IMO.

I like his football. It's the right balance of possession and directness now. In recent years we had become more and more indirect, messing around in the middle of the park until Messi drops deep and dribbles 5 players. That seems fixed now. Even Busquets and Song are now releasing penetrating passes if the opportunity arises. That over the top pass from Busquets to Montoya for Messi's first goal was old school "Xavi to Alves" stuff. Song also got himself an assist. Very entertaining. Now release Nemesis!!!
