Gini Wijnaldum

Footballers retire at like 35. 30-32 is usually the last few years of being able to maintain their top level. 33-35 is usually severe decline. Not for every player though, some stay on. Usually the fitter ones. Not sure what people want, probably to have Puig start every game instead

Fitter ones who weren't run into a ground.

I am bit scared signing Klopps old players. The intensity they used to play, wow. Wij has a lot of miles in his shoes from the past few years.

If he had been rested a lot folk would complain he is a Liverpool reject and not fit enough any more to play every week.

Cant win.

That is true too but just but worried his legs will fall off. Liverpool fans liked him and thinks him as a club legend. That's positive.

It is more dependent on the player than the number of games played.

A lot of the Liverpool games are not as intense as would think from middle of park anyway as often it is to hold position and let FBs go forward then press after front line.

Intense pressing from midfield when need to but not 90 mins of it.

i'm more concerned at the fact he played in klopps system as there he was required to do a certain job. that's why the paulinho/vidal comparisons were made.

sure both paulinho and vidal were lauded initially for their grit/instensity/goalscoring, but they both eventually failed at being barca midfielders.

Every player in a system has a certain job to do and Wijnaldum has played in different roles for Liverpool and at Newcastle and with Netherlands.

If anything his versatility would be a plus point.

He's welcome as a free agent. I approve.

He'll be a great option for Busi, Frenkie and Pedri. Hopefully Busi becomes a bench player early. At least we can't fault a midfield of Frenkie, Pedri and Gini for being lazy.

so he's a workhorse ?

we'll probably use a 4-4-2 with wijnaldum next to busquets pedri and fdj with Messi and Aguero up front

Overall, I am happy with Wijnaldum coming to Barcelona.
I think it's useful for any team to have a physical player, a runner; like Ngolo Kante for example in chelsea.
Wijnaldum has a similar profile than Vidal and Paulinho. But I think he is better than them in two areas :
1/ He is faster than them
2/ He is better in ball retention, being a "press-resistant" player (even if he is not skilled at passing).

Spot on!
I would add a 3rd:
He is WC in defensive transitions. He is where he should be to stop the counter. Something we struggle traditionally.

Wijnaldum's case is really like a football IQ test.
If you don't understand why he is WC, then you probably only see the half side of the sport.

Too much relax lately :nervous:

Your agent doesn't show up with a lawyer when you just talk about club's interest. You take your lawyer with you when you negotiate the contract. Things are already serious and I'm sure everything will be settled before Euro2020 starts. Maybe we'll have to wait for something official from the club until July though because it is better to sign the contract in the new financial year.
