Hector Bellerin

This tweet couldn't be any more vague either.

It's not reassuring either side (Arsenal / FCB or some other interested club) so unless fanning the flames was his sole motivation, the guy would be better off without posting anything in the first place. **Not that this has too much to do with Bellerin specifically, I'm just tired of the drama and endless transfer rumour articles something as frivolous as players or their agents' social media likes/follows/tweets generate. Barça would have a squad of 138 players if that was ever indicative of anything.

The thing is ..... speed is one of THE most important aspects of modern football - attack and defence in particular so having arguably the fastest player in the world certainly works for me . He shattered the Arsenal sprint records of long standing , including Thierry Henry's and Theo Walcotts .

I've seen him so many times , he's great breaking forward and/ or overlapping plus he's more than adequate in defensive situations , I've also seen him making ridiculous runs back into defence to cover for team mates errors and making fantastic last ditch tackles nobody else would ever manage .

Just being fast isn't enough. It's the ability to run with the ball, spotting the runs of other players as well as space to run into. Last season has lots of great examples of this:

Can't forget that he's 4 years away from hitting his prime, where he'll then be around the same age as Dani Alves was when he left Sevilla for Barca.

MD and Sport have been ridiculous during this saga.

I wouldn't doubt it's a combination of them pushing the narrative we want Bellerin badly and the Board possibly influencing both papers as well. it's a simple tactic and could be effective but in this case I can't see it working at all even if Bellerin is considering a move.

Once Bellerin signed that deal until 2023, the chances of us actually signing him dropped dramatically. The MD/Sport articles scream if we keep pushing Bellerin to Barca Propaganda enough Arsenal would accept our 30-40 Million euro bid!

I mean it all sounds incredibly stupid but It wouldn't even be surprising at all.

I'd agree , speed is essential though ..

Love that compilation . Notice the goal saving tackle back at only 25 seconds !! Nobody else could do that !

As much as I love Roberto he simply doesn't compare well to Bellerin IMHO

Contracts mean nothing nowadays ....even less than years ago when Clive Allen signed a long term , big money deal in the summer transfer but hadn't even played for his new club when they sold him onto another team in an even bigger move , about a week later but before the new season has even started !!

In this case? it actually means something if they can quote a fee that no one in their right mind would pay for.

He signed a new deal until 2023 with no known release clause, and a Club and manager who have no intention of selling him. they will quote some large ass fee that is in their total right that will force us to look elsewhere.

We are no where near in prime negotiation position for Bellerin. If Bellerin didn't sign that new long term deal and add missing the CL, we had a chance but now? no way.

I certainly hope we continue to be linked closely, and as much as possible, credibly, with a range of players in the positions we want to reinforce. It puts us in a much stronger bargaining position with the players and their clubs.

"You want us to pay how much for Semedo?? Well, we could get Bellerin for that price, and we already have personal terms worked out with him..."

According to Miguel Rico, Bellerin will have to push Arsenal in order to move.

He mentions, Cesc and Mascherano style.

What do we have from Alba's speed, for example?

Usually a one player less when we have a possession.

He can reach some parts of Dani's game.
Sadly for Bellerin, you can't improve your IQ no matter how much you play or age.

What do you think about Nelson Semedo from the vids of him available?

Those are just vids.
Semedo looks smarter and a better fit than Bellerin, but imo his Iq on videos also looks way below Dani's.

In short:
Belle is better than Roberto and better than nothing.
But not a good fit overall.
Semedo looks better than nothing and also better than Bellerin, but he won't be the new Dani either.

I would rather have Semedo than Bellerin.
But also, I would like to get someone better than Semedo, since once you buy a player like him, you are locked for at least 3-5 years.

Who is that other guy, I have no idea.
Also, imo, we could have survived pre-Alves with Rbs Oleguer, Belletti and Zambrotta, but then we had world class attack, midfield and an attacking Lb VBronckhorst, and then "just ok-ish" Rb (even though Zambrotta was supposed to be a huge success) was good enough.

But today, when our attack is too individualistic, and when our midfield and Lb Alba are horrible, we won't survive with another average player.

So, we will need to hit a few lucky jackpots on a transferlist in upcoming years to fight with Rm and other teams.

If we'll just buy a bunch of okish guys for all positions, Rm will soon win their 15th Cl that way.

@<a href="http://www.barcaforum.com/member.php?u=15376" target="_blank">DonAK</a>

I'll expand more. I would like us to have one fullback who is close to Dani Alves or Van Bronckhorst (imo, 2 best fullbacks we had in the last 20 years).
Those 2 guys were fullbacks, but they were also midfielders or classic wingers.
So, they can play in 433 or 4231 as classic fullbacks and defend as fullbacks when needed, but in attack, they are not "dumb" like fullbacks with pace and nothing more (Alba, Bellerin), but they play possession football, 1-2 passes, they are involved in a slow and patient build up, the same as midfielders.
On the other hand, fullbacks like Alba, what can you do with them attacking wise? Absolutely nothing.
He is a non factor against parked buses and he only ruins any meaningful attack.

So, we could survive with one Alves/Gio and one Alba/Bellerin.
But imo, we can't survive with 2 twins in Alba/Bellerin, who both can just kick the ball and run.

About Alves/Gio, this is one goal from Gio whom I always remember, against Real in ElClassico in 2004/05 at Camp Nou (3:0).
Gio plays (not only in that action), like a winger/midfielder. He never kicks the ball and runs down the wing like an idiot.
With him on a wing, you could have played 1-2s and shortpasses, the same as with Xavi/Iniesta/Deco/Ronaldinho.
He was one of the guys who can hold the ball forever (with smart passing), unlike Alba, Bellerin and other pacey fullbacks.

So, once again, if our midfield is shit and if Neymar plays a one man show all the time, Bellerin won't improve anything.
Alba will just run down the wing.
Bellerin will just run down the wing.
Midfield will be crap as always.
Neymar will play individual actions and that's it.
We will still probably play chaotic.

Anyway, Gio's goal (and the whole action) starts at around 16:00 on this video:

Or 2:00 here (first video is not working at forum):

There is not a right back out there who has what Alves had so no point in comparing players to him anyway.

Not a huge fan of Alba but if can get a RB and RW to produce what Ney and Alba do on left with Messi in the middle the team would be almost impossible to stop going forward.
