Should've had at least three assists the last three games...then there are complaints our midfield isn't creative enough...

There always seems to be extremism regarding Rakitic. When he has one bad game people say he is a waste of space, not Barca quality blah blah blah. Then when he has a good game people say he was the transfer of the summer. Make up your mind people.

He is sometimes poor at shortpasses and somewhat slow.
But he works hard, he is good defensively, he has awesome through balls (on the ground and through the air), he has awesome long passes, he has a good longshot, he is physically stronger than our other midfielders, and he is good in linking up and in switching positions with Messi. In general, he is very useful when he is not a defensive midfielder.

In the last few matches, he showed a few awesome through balls through the air for Messi and Suarez.
In youtube videos, people can see that he was often producing a lot of similar deadly through balls in Sevilla and Schalke:

Yeah I know. I'm one of the ones who thinks the guy is a top class player.

Just think its odd when people jump to extremes from week to week with the guy. Sure its the same with any player but it just seems particularly stupid with Rakitic when he hasn't really had any bad performances.

Consistency is all we are asking of him

Can't think of anything he's done badly though, especially if we don't include games where everyone has been utter shit. He was one of our best players at the start of the season as well.

Has been better since he is not trying to replicate a Xavi-esque role. Plays by far the least passes per match from our midfield trio.

Without the ball he's mostly between the opposition's defensive and midfield line, with Iniesta and Busquets responsible for 1st to 2nd phase build up transitions.

That is what a lot ppl here were saying here - he has skills, he has quality, but for some reason he wasn't showing it and it was either because Lucho instructed him to play safe or because of confidence and now he is taking more risk and we can see what he is capable of.

His best ability in Sevilla was to elevate his game against bigger sides, something that we clearly lacked with Cesc and what is needed for a club like Barca. He always left some great impression against sides like Barca, Madrid and Atleti in his stint at Sevilla. He was a massively underrated player and it's good to see that he's continuing that with Barca after getting his suitable role.

Not really. Suarez has yet to have a run of good games like Rakitic and keeps missing sitters that any striker should score let alone a £60m one.

Nonsense, Suarez played really poorly only in last few games. He did not miss chances before, plus (despite lack of goals) created a lot for others.

Rakitic's movements on the right wing disturbed Godin's positional play and that led to a goal in la Liga game and to a chance yesterday.

Exactly. It's the additional man in attack, creating an overload on Messi's side, that is disrupting the deep defense. It's very promising, as Atletico's bus is about as good and disciplined as it gets. I'm expecting that Barça will have a much easier time with other La Liga deep defenses going forward if they continue to use this strategy.
