Ivan Rakitić

Shooting from distance is his only useful quality it seems. His lack of mobility and his inability to cope under pressure renders him useless against most top teams.

During Napoli counter attacks he was nowhere to be seen because he can't recover quickly enough in defensive transitions.

He could be probably be useful from the bench, but not starter material anymore, unless against mid table la liga teams.

I wholeheartedly agree.

If it weren't for Neto, this would have been another proper hiding, Anfield style.

As for Rakitic, this game was typical of his performances last season. Zero influence, zero stamina, but scored a goal (except he only scored 4). DonAndres is spot on, he's got zero mobility on those hips.

Scored a goal ... along with Busquets and played 90 minutes.. Safe to say Busquets and Rakitic are fixed while the rest will be fighting for the vacant single spot ??

There were 3-4 times where he made some crappy pass that got intercepted and he made no effort whatsoever to try and run back to defend, even though the defence got outnumbered becouse of his misstake.
Instead he just started walking marking an oponent that was standing still..

It is interesting to check how the eye test of fans is different.
For some, he was horrible.
Yet, in Miami he was chosen as a man of the match.
And he got the best ratings from Mundo deportivo and Sport.
Also, stats say:

The former Sevilla was the one who shot the most times (5), who created the most chances (3), the one who played the most (88) and the one who made the most passes (72), according to the information provided by the organization of the clash.

Top scorer of the preseason with Carles Pérez

With his great goal last night, after a stumble from outside the area to receive a rejection of a previous shot from Abel Ruiz , Rakitic adds two this preseason - the first one was scored at Chelsea in Japan - and equals the two that adds Carles Pérez .

While in the club they are still waiting for offers for him, Rakitic has chosen to speak within the field and, today, he is one of the few who have secured ownership in the San Mamés garter belt premiere.

Was smiling in photos next day of this decade's biggest embarrassement of football, and he is still playing 90min every match.

Using preseason stats to justify him starting . How desperate can his fanboys get

We all know he will shit the bed again in the big games, and that these preseason matches mean nothing for most players besides the new ones.

Otherwise Rafinha would be the GOAT

Thanx for the reminder. Pretty sure more than half of starters took that embarrassment too lightly as well.

But who is to blame here really? Can't blame Rakitic or any footballer for living their dream and taking it easy when he is allowed and applauded. Management failed us.

Considering our options, yes.

Frenkie is the only world class midfielder.

Busi is the same as Raki.
Vidal is a fighter for tight matches but also meh against small teams due to his 1-touch football.
Roberto, a weaker version of Rakitic who has legs.
Arthur, good in press resistance. For now meh in all other aspects.

What are the options at all?
You have Frenkie and then you have 2 free midfield spots.
The only goal is to pick the least bad players.

For me, Frenkie is a No1.
And Raki, Busi and Arthur should rotate for remaining spots.
Maybe even Coutinho in Camp Nou matches, if he stays.

The same question: with whom would you play against Getafe and Girona at home?
I am not talking about Anfield.

P. sure when people talk about starters they mean 'in serious matches'. We could play the B team in most liga matches for all i care. Who cares about it anyway. It has been in the pocket for a decade. Winning it means crap, when it's topped off by prison rap3 in CL at each peak of the season.

Fairytale: Ivan "3 goals in La Liga" Rakitic is the reason why we beat the likes of Getafe and Girona.

Reality: a Messi FK or hattrick wins us those games because Fraudverde has set this team up to rely on Messi more than ever
