plus he can play 3 positions (cb, lb or even dm)

If barça is going to get a Belgian defender it should be Vertongen, Kompany is going to be too expensive and Vermaelen is not good enough.

Vermaelen was really poor in this season, I don't think he is best solution for Barca. But on the other side Jan V. was good.
He was named Premier League Player of the Month for March 2013 for his consistent good performances. Also he has played 33 games and scored 4 goals and in Ajax 144 and 33 goals - that's superb. Somebody have already said - he can play in few diferent positions and he is good header.
In my opinion maybe the best solution because T. Silva is to expensive, Humels is similar to Pique and Tito doesn't want him, David Luiz is not that good, and for Vermaelen I have already said...

I don't know if he has a buy-out clause. If he doesn't then their chairman Levy will likely make us pay a huge amount. This is the guy who got United to pay 30 million British pounds for Berbatov. Mind you I wouldn't mind paying a lot for a player of Veronghens quality.

I always thought Vermaelen was highly overrated. In his first season he managed to score a lot of goals which made the general opinion forget about his poor defending. He really is not Barça material, he is probably at his top now.. in a club fighting for 4th spot every season. When Arsenal turned it up a notch in the second half of the season he even lost his spot. I'm a not surprised.

Vertonghen is definitely better, but is he Barça material? I'm not sure. I don't think he has what it takes to be a starter at such a big club, but considering our poor defence this year let's just say he is easily as good as all CB's we have now He would be a great squad player to cover the LB & CB positions. Especially if Adriano leaves.

Agreed we should try and get him, but this is Spurs who has a chairman who loves to milk as much money as he can when selling players.

if i remember rigt ajax and de boer told barca last year he would fit perfectly into barca... we could have signed him for less than 10mil.. now we got song for 20..
