I think it was not about underestimating the Eredivisie, it was rather about not even knowing it. Alba was a steal, but an obvious one, as he was a regular in the Spanish league and at the Spanish national team and had been a part of La Masia.

I meant not knowing it as in not taking it seriously and not even scouting the league. I'm just trying to figure out why we would buy a CM for 20m who should act as a back-up for our DM and our CB's instead of a proper CB who costs less. The only explanation to me is that they were afraid of having another Chygrynskiy and wanted to play safe with a player from one of the top leagues.

I think they could have gotten all 3. Vertonghen wasn't that expensive. But he is now.
