Juan Manuel Mata

If Valecnia are serious about their project, it will be great for them to buy him back. I feel bad for the guy. He is actually a good player but got screwed over by Mou.

He has consistently scored goals/assists so I don't see what more he can do

He has had a decent start to the season but the quality of opposition wasn't the best. Over the next couple weeks he has two big games that he'll probably start due to Rooney's suspension. If they get good results in those games and he plays really well then it will be hard to drop him, although that still may happen. I admit it does feel like his United career wont last past this season.

Mundo reporting that Mata could be a potential transfer target once our ban has finished. Thoughts? If there is any truth in it I would guess he would be a replacement for Iniesta....

The main complaint I read about Mata is that he's not that hard working when the team doesn't have the ball. He doesn't track back nor defend with his life on the line.

I read Mou hated that about him.

He seems to be the same as Pastore from PSG but even worse since the former actually started to work for the team when the opposing team has the ball.

Therefore, I don't see him being Barca material.

That's a good point. Although Iniesta has never been one for tracking back.. but definitely more than Mata. In terms of creativity, skill etc I could see him fitting in.. but then again it's just a rumour.

Barca is also know to put pressure on the opposing team when they don't have the ball.

It's important to get back the ball as fast as possible.

Mata is not the kind of player you want for that.

Agreed. He's really slow at times.. I can see where Mundo are coming from though.. Iniesta will be 31 by then while Mata will be 26. Will be interesting to see who we replace him with but hopefully he can carry on playing into his 30s.

I agree with some people here that Verratti would be a perfect replacement.

Problem is, I don't see PSG selling him. Especially not to Barca if we keep the current board.

But if I had to choose between the two, I'll pick Verratti over Mata.

Verratti doesn't always play as defensive midfielder. He played as 10 many times with PSG and he did very good.

He's very good for the last pass even when he plays DM. He would create tons of assists for Messi, Suarez and Neymar.

No thanks. He's a great chap and all but he's always on the bench at United and I don't think he would play that much here. I would much rather someone like Coutinho than him. And I believe Iniesta will still deliver the goods for at least two or three seasons as well. And Rafinha is getting better and better.

Mata is a really good player. I would not mind having him here for depth but he would not be a sure starter in big games. Although could be when he is in form.

Rumours that Atletico want him. Simeone expects the same from his players as Mourinho does, as if this transfer would work.

Not Barca quality

This "bust" is better than any Barca midfielder over the past 12 months

Big mistake by United if they let him go. Dude's the most productive player they have over the past 12 months, despite being shoved to the wing by Moyes, the frequent changes of lineups and formations, and he even got benched by LVG earlier this year. Will die of laughter if they let him go and sign Falcao for good.

Maybe as AM, but we don't use AMs. Mata is not good as winger or CM, he's too limited in this regard, he's pure 10. He'd flop big time in LE system. I wouldn't want him for free.
