The guy has always been held to this weird unrealistic standard by some Madrid fans.
Reminds me of the Classico that Bar?a won 3-4 with Benzema scoring a brace and being the only genuine offensive threat throughout the game, yet some fans decided he was to blame for the loss because he didn't finish ALL of his chances.
Nevermind the shitty defense that got wrecked or the bad performances from the likes of Ronaldo. Nope, it was Benzema and his inability to score a super hattrick...

At least he still has that hairstylist/barber flying in Madrid every other week to freshen up his look.
A LOT of people on Reddit, Madrid Twitter etc.. Again, not saying it was the majority of fans, just a very dedicated and vocal segment of them.
In that game, he missed a couple of good chances but made up for them almost immediately. He didn't deserve the criticism he got, especially considering how other players ghosted through that game.

Why didn't he deserve it? If he missed a sitter that would have made it 4-4 or whatever the scoreline was... Made up for the misses how? Only 2nd goal was any good for as I recall. Every striker who misses a chance that would help the team deserves some criticism for it. That doesn't necessarily make him responsible for a loss. Point is a goal later doesn't absolve him from errors.
Today he was absolutely partially responsible for us having to resort to old shit tactics that showcase him and other players capable in the air, but make us absolutely sterile against better opposition and it'd be far better off us playing differently to get the rest involved instead of taking a chance every game. If he had scored to make it 1-0, team would have at the very least a reason to continue improving in a different system instead of employing the poor, irregular approach. Just because you can give it to Benz all the time and he'll net the 15 in 27 games, doesn't mean it should be your go-to.

Nah c’mon that’s a cop out. That gif is still you saying he’s a clown, which was the point of the bet. At least give him some credit for 15 goals. Probably end up on 20 too. Just put any normal photo.

And won them the 17/18 tie. And didn't have this weird streak where he couldn't score away from home in CL for 5 years straight...
