Lionel Messi - v7

How the hell would he be exposed in the Premier League when teams like Leicester are beating teams like City 5-2. Teams like Aston Villa are beating teams like Liverpool 7-2. And so on.

I swear, people overrate the Premier League so much. They have a lot of average teams and defenses in that league. You actually get more space in the Premier league.

You just said it yourself basically, the PL is competitive on a level La liga will never be. add to that Messi scores most his goals these days vs cannon fodder/midtable la liga teams.. i highly doubt he would of made much difference to that 5-2 scoreline

People here believing that PL is some kind of Level 100 in terms of a league. But sure it's now better than La Liga

It's like I keep saying. Claiming this current version of Messi is an amazing player is actually an ironic disservice to the years in which he actually was an amazing player.

I think people build a false reality regarding Messi. I don't know exactly when it was but I started hearing some idiotic things like Messi would be able to move into Xavi role and play until 40. Like it was a time I think back in 2016 or so, when those sort of idiotic things started to circulate in the media. I remember being hilariously amused by that.

I mean what the fuck? This is disrespect not only to former Messi, but Xavi as well. People have no idea about the real profile of Messi and the profile of Xavi. And why neither of the two would be able to perform the role of the other. Look at Messi. When he looses a ball in a deep positions, he acts as if he lost it in attack. Only "minor" difference is that in attack when he loses a ball, there are 8-10 players behind him, and in deeper positions when he loses the ball there are 2-4 players (especially when fullbacks push up). I mean that alone completely changes how you play.

Seriously, how could anyone think Messi could play like Xavi, when Xavi's no1 skill, which is elite and non-stop movement, is Messi's worst? Xavi was a midfield dynamo. Everyone around him that had the ball could've passed to him because Xavi never hid behind anyone. He moved so much that he was impossible to lock down or cover. Messi is the total opposite. Even when the play is near him you see him walking uninterested a lot.

It doesn't matter if Messi likes this or that. Every role comes with functions and responsabilities. It doesn't matter what you like. If you play here, you need X or Y. If you are not wiling to perform well in those areas, you can't play there.

Here is Messi playing in areas his game is not equipped to allow him to perform well in. Every time Messi is played deep and players make runs involves a risk. Because if the ball is lost, or the pass fails, the players who make runs will be out of position. And Messi will be in a deeper area where he will need to perform the role those players can't anymore (due to making runs). And he will just not do it. And this is why the opponent easily plays directly on our backline. Because of idiotic permutations of positions to allow Messi his famous "free" role. There's no such thing as a free role.

It's reasonable. Even though he's declined he still offers more than griezmann, dembele and trincao. we'll see what happens. If the club proposes this and he accepts, he'll sign an extension. Otherwise he'll leave in the summer.

Yes, but he's not burdening the club finances like Trincao. We need to look at this from a financial perspective. Messi and Griezmann both need to go. Fati + a real no9 (maybe Haaland). Plus a new signing on RW.

Messi, Greizmann, Dembele need to me moved. Pretty crazy 17 year old Fati is already putting in better performances than them.

Ideally, we should be looking at Fati - Haaland - Empty spot. Pedri - De Jong - Empty Spot. Alba - Empty spot - Empty spot - Dest. Stegen/Neto.

Sign Haaland and the offense is sorted only with Haaland and Fati. Can't go wrong. Look at the shooting technique of Haaland. Man blasts shots in the roof of the net. Others, even highly rated players, can't hit the target even at 50% less power than Haaland. Haaland is the next Cristiano. Only player who can shoot at full power with the same accuracy almost. That's an outrageous shooting ability that we've lacked since Eto'o - power shooting with precision.

With what happened today, I actually think we would've stood a better chance if Messi didn't play, he really affected the team's dynamism and other players couldn't perform fully. His lack of movement is really bad and it seems he has a clause in his contract that makes it impossible to bench him

Sporting wise I think people shouldn't be expecting much from him, given his age. It would be ridiculous to think he hasn't declined, he declined a lot. That said, he can still do wonders in some games if he tries but the problem is he doesn't try all the time.

Either way he should leave for his and more important for our own good. I don't want the new president to bend their knees and do everything to keep him next summer. He should leave.

I don't know what do you all expect? He badly wanted to leave and they forced him to stay. Unfortunately he will be abysmal this entire season. We should let him leave next summer and he needs to get best farewell ever.

People seriously need to stop expecting him to perform like he did few seasons ago. He is almost 34y old. His end is near. He probably has 2 more seasons in him but he for sure won't be decisive as he was. FFS he is playing more for than 15y on the highest level. It's perfectly normal he is declining.
