Lionel Messi - v7

It amuses me how personally BarcaOG takes CR7 criticism/memes on a BARCA FORUM. Mind boggling.

If you admire him so much, what is stopping you from becoming a Juve supporter?

Showing your true colors again, eh? Alik

Too bad I'm not going to run screaming "MODS PLEASE HELP I'M FEELING THREATENED". Imagine actually saying those words on a football forum.

Also, I reported you for having a 4 word vocabulary of "Beta. Meme. Arsenal fan. Cuck" and calling others variations of those 4 in every post.

CR7 has missed the same amount of important penalties (CL, NT) as Messi. Deal with it.

Are you kidding me? You're describing yourself. You're the one who ran to the mods for help because there are no arguments you can make that can magically waive away the fact that

between the ages of 23-33, the prime of any footballer, Messi managed to win only one CL while our arch rivals Real won 4. During Messi's absolute peak. You can build idols to Leo all you want but that won't change. Messi has missed more decisive penalties for his teams than any other GOAT-level player.

CR7 has missed 5 penalties in the CL and NT. Messi has missed 5.

Love how you're subscribing to the BBZ method of arbitrary year selections to fit your narrative...23 to 33 is Messi's prime...when he had already won 2 Ballon D'Or and almost won 3 CL by 23.

Shameless.

Now go cartwheel on a Juve forum.

These things aren't personal to me, lol, I'm not involved in an icon-worshipping cult. It just happens to be CR that has a much better KO and CL record than Messi. If it were another player I'd say the same thing.

What is annoying is precisely your point, which you miss: this is a Barcelona forum, not a Messi forum. What we are interested in here is the success of our club, not praising Messi blindly and posting ridiculously short-sighted messages such as "Job Done" after we are eliminated from the CL. What kind of 'job done' is that? We could lose la Liga, lose the Copa, win nothing at all and you cultists would still praise Messi and call it 'job done' if he scored goals in those competitions.

That's short sighted and is partly the reason our club is in such shambles. You don't know what a 'good' job is.

Hi guys long time reader first time poster here...

First of all it?s only fair to say that I?m not a Barcelona fan as such, but I did form an attachment to the great side Pep built, especially Messi and Iniesta. I guess this was because at the time my beloved Leeds United were truly awful. (Ironic as we now play some of the most entertaining football possible under Marcelo Bielsa).

Ever since Messi scored the solo goal at the Bernabeu in 2011 I have been totally obsessed with watching the guy play. I was lucky enough to get a ticket to the away leg against Manchester City in 2015 where he was completely out of this world and I felt lucky to witness it in person. And just when you thought he was past his best, the 2-3 game where he scored with the last kick against Real Madrid in 2017(?) was the closest I?ve ever seen to one man dragging a team to victory. His ability really does make you feel that anything is possible, and it?s why I stayed up watching Argentina who are awful as I?m sure plenty of other on here have... And tbf the hat trick to put them to the World Cup was worth it!

You guys will be pleased to hear however that I?m not one of these people who thinks everything he does is perfect and whenever it goes wrong it?s everyone else?s fault!

Last night I felt sad regarding Leo. For Barca fans you have a good young core coming through and things will go on, but I think this felt like the last chance to see something truly amazing from Messi. The goal is absolutely out of this world and that?s what makes you believe he can decide anything.

But the big disappointment I?ve come to realise is that his mental strength will always bite him. For the penalty I swear he hesitated after the whistle, I knew he was going to miss it. Then if you watch the corner kick immediately after, he stands as the PSG player dribbles past him. 5 minutes earlier when he was buzzing from his goal I saw him make a great sliding interception!

For me personally he didn?t really bring it in the second half and unfortunately it?s one of the factors of his career that adversity just seems to cripple him. You just want him to take the ball and keep trying, keep making himself available, dribble and win free kicks then no one will be able to say anything if it still doesn?t work!

In fairness it wasn?t as bad tonight as on other occasions. And of course the one situation where you couldn?t really blame Messi is anfield where youd like to think that he did enough!

Finally the guys luck is also terrible... if it hits Navas an inch higher it would cannon into the roof of the net and no one mentions lack of composure. Same way that if higuan scores in one of the copa finals then he doesn?t get criticised for not winning with Argentina.

His career has been so good and yet still leaves me with a bitter taste of ?what could have been? if he could truly channel his unbelievable talent when the biggest moments came around.

Hopefully it won?t be the end of Messi on the biggest stage, and I also fully accept that as a non Barca fan on here my opinion doesn?t really count!

Cheers

Messi doesn't have a terrible KO PK record.

Just from his PKs for Argentina in knockout stage

2011 Copa America QF vs Uruguay: scored in the penalty shootout
2014 World Cup SF vs Netherlands: scored in the penalty shootout
2015 Copa America QF vs Colombia: scored in the penalty shootout
2015 Copa America Final vs Chile: scored in the penalty shootout

The one that he missed in the Knockout was the 2016 Copa America final vs Chile. Messi's a very good penalty taker, just not a specialist like CR

If you could choose any player in the world to take an important and potentially match or title-deciding penalty, you wouldn't choose Messi over CR. You simply wouldn't.

That's not the point though. You argue that Messi's KO PK record is terrible, which I'm arguing it isn't.

He missed CL semi finals v Barca 2008.

He missed CL final v Chelsea 2008.

He missed CL semi final v Bayern 2012.

How are these not crucial? Are you deluded?

1. He won that CL.
2. He scored in that game and won that CL.
3. Fair point.

Imagine, though, claiming a player is the GOAT when between ages 23-33 they won only one CL while their direct rivals win 4. Just imagine. If it were the other way around, you'd have no problem whatever saying that about CR. Just the other day you guys were cartwheeling because he let a ball go through his legs against Porto. I can only imagine the things you would have said had he missed a penalty against them and Juve went out.

Messi does precisely that, though and--wouldn't you know it, it's okay. No problem. Right.

The person you quoted literally admitted that Messi isn't as good as CR at pks.

Fine; your evidence definitely makes my claim sound less plausible than is the case. I'll grant that.

That said, I would still go with CR for a deciding penalty. I think most people would, too. Do you dispute that?

Lmao. They won despite him missing the penalty.

If we'd won despite Messi missing a penalty, you wouldn't mind?

What logic is this to absolve CR7's misses?

You are certifiably dense. I'm sorry. There's simply no point in arguing with you. Putting you on ignore.

I've never seen such a heel turn to be honest. Should put this guy's name in the dictionary for definition of "Success FC" fan.

Fickle as they come.

That's okay, lol. Clearly it frustrates you to no end that I won't praise Messi no matter how many times he is involved in an epic CL humiliation which makes our club a laughing stock. It drives you bonkers. That's okay though.

Less CLs than CR; less CL goals than CR; less CL goals than CR; less NT goals than CR; less international titles than CR despite playing 2x the NT finals.

These are the facts. You cannot wish them away no matter how upset they make you.
