Lionel Messi - v7

I might be dreaming but I keep hearing things like:
"1 tournament of 7 games shouldn't have so much weight over a whole season".
"Trophies are a team achievement and a single player shouldn't be judged for B'Dor based on them".

So, Messi wins the ever evasive international trophy with his national team, being the player of the tournament while at it, and on top of his, unquestionably, higher level than any other footballer even at the age of 34, has another accomplishment to help his odds towards the no.7 and suddenly the narrative shifts.

We have to keep the goalposts kind of steady though, don't we now? Either Messi does deserve this award due to the overall season performance PLUS the international trophy, or trophies and performances in cup competitions with few games don't matter that match and only player level and performances are accounted, in which case, Messi should already have about 10 Ballon d'Ors to his name. I mean, excluding trophies won, his individual level from 2008 to 2021 has been surely above every one else bar a couple of seasons.

Pick your poison..

Can't believe people are talking about a guy who barelly has around 5 goals this year and no assists to be a Ballon d'or contender just because he was in a winning team.

Yeah, makes you indeed question how much football these guys know. Well,if we are at it, let's give all italians a mini Ballon D'Or.Give the english ones too, just from silver. And to be complete, give Kante one too, he deserves it, he works so hard. Just make it black, so it can't seem racist.

One tournament shouldnt decide a ballon dor. Imagine Braithwhite would have destroyed the EURO, he would still be a nobody for ballon dor. It counts for Messi as he was already top favourite for ballon dor with lewa before the copa which is now the cherry on the cake.

You, like Te Amo, are mistaking individual performance for individual talent/capacity.
Only if individual talent/capacity was awarded Messi should have gotten the award from whenever he started playing football to today.
But that's not or should this be the award

So, mentioning any one from the Italians in the B'Dor convertation has no point whatsoever, right?

I am really not. You, a statistics lover, should be able to see that. Check out every attacker AND mifielder player over the last 13 years. Compare their stats to Messi's. Realize that Messi's stats are over the roof compared to anyone else. Is that individual performance for individual talent/capacity?

I agree.
Also mentioning Kane should also be out of the question, since he didn't have a great season, a great Euro or any trophies.

Never understood the kante supporters, dude had some great matches but thats it.

Messi and Lewa were above everyone else this year and because of the copa messi should get it but i like don's idea, give lewa ballon dor 2020 and messi 2021.

I really get the Leva injustice in 2020. And if this award in any way covered last season too, he should actually have an equal chance with Messi. But it doesn't.
And Birdy is trying to navigate through this fundamental problem, which is impossible. Because if the award doesn't include 2020 calendar year, like it is supposed to, then there is simply no one else
in contention with Messi for 2021. He might be nowhere near Messi from 2015, but the point still stands.
