Lionel Messi - v7

No he hasn't, enough with this bullshit already.

Says who? He's never really done it anyway.

If Messi spoke out publicly against let's say Valverde last summer i'm sure he would've been gone but amigos backed him up. We wouldn't have won fuck all with Valverde as well so they got what they deserved either way.

I'm sure he could also influence the boards reputation and the outcome of elections if he would speak up, Messi isn't the dictator running the club some papers paint him as but i wouldn't underestimate his influence.

Now he chose to not push for any change, what is fine as he's just a player at the end of the day but then maybe act different on the pitch as a captain.

He should definitely play in last game, there will be big break as CL will only return on 7th of August, so no problems with getting rest. My personal feeling is that although surely the physical limitations are quite obvious by know with our team and Messi, the biggest issue is still mental one. Messi has never been a really strong personality, he takes critique far more personally than many other stars and as he has aged, has become also a bit of a sulk in games. I guess being hailed as god and goat and best player ever will put "some" pressure on you, but Messi has not really been very professional in handling it. Like his "retirements" from national team, crucial penalty misses etc all come down to mental weakness. Add here changed priorities with being a lovely family man and you get a player who feels immense pressure, but has hard times coping with it. This also reflects in him disappearing in those crucial moments in CL ties, where some other players would rise to occasion. Surely no 1 man should have this burden on his shoulders, but unfortunately, our entire gameplay has been going through Messi already for years and he feels that he needs to still do it by himself.

Weakest mentality of any all-time great. He is lucky for most of his career he was too talented for it to really affect him.

What are you on about? It doesn't matter how talented he is, there is no way he stays as good as he was for that long without having a strong mentality. The retirement for Argentina is completely different, he gets crucified everytime they lose

You're welcome
One thing I'm 99.9999999% sure is if we had Neymar, no way we would've lost 4 - 0 at the Killin Fields. No wayyyyyyyy joseeeeee :mourinho emo:

either Neymar or Neymar type is what we need. Attack and drive for goal. This passing around endlessly is killin us

We might not have won 3-0 at home with him either.

I am not saying his mentality is awful compared to the average player, it is not, but compared to some of the other giants of football it most certainly is.

He looked like he wanted to vomit in the WC Final 2014 and the entirety of the 2018 WC. The pressure was visibly taking a toll on him.

That's what happens when the whole country is expecting you to win the world cup single handedly. R9 suffered a fit and almost died before WC 98 final. He'll never be able to please Argentina fans unless he does what maradona did, which is almost impossible these days as football has evolved and become more tactical.

it 4ever will remain a mystery... but when no tax or off-field distractions, he always seemed super motivated against top opposition. Seemed to relish these type of victories more. + him and Leo had this telepathic 6G connection

My ref is, if Zaha can so easily disrupt Pool even at Anfield, then Ney + Messi could do it no probs...

Just give Leo a bit more quality and we would've pulled off the treble. Either Ney or Benz... I'm on the fence :dance2:

Weak mentality? Leaves his home country of Argentina at 13 to move to Barcelona. He's touted as the next big thing and performs well in games, shrugging the pressure off. Then replaces none other than Ronaldinho in the team, not only is Ronaldinho one of the all time greats he's also the most loved worldwide player. He takes over from Ronaldinho and oh he handles the pressure and we win everything. Then he gets to a world cup final where his teammate misses one of the easiest chances you can get in football (a 1 on 1), same teammate misses 2 separate easy chances some created by Messi himself to lose Copa America finals. One copa final he scores a penalty in the shootout but misses in another. Guess which mental giant people suck off has decided to take the last penalty in important shootouts only for the glory, to end up not even taking a penalty because it's all over? None other than Cristiano himself. Takes a mental giant to take the first penalty, not the last penalty so you can rip your shirt off and shout siiiuuuuuuu

We're turning into Real Madrid, not just galactico style transfers but "fans" blaming legends of the club who still have much to give.

Probably the dumbest thing i've read on this forum and thats saying a lot, you should be utterly ashamed of yourself for your verbal diarrhea.

Aye.

I still rate him as the greatest ever and he is one of my favourite Barca players of all-time.

But I should be ashamed because some muppet that has openly admitted he is not a Barca fan, but rather a Messi fanboy is trying to shame me for not kissing his arse hard enough.

Pipe down you twat. I will still be following this club in 10 years, you won't.

I am more than happy to have a debate with anyone on this matter and disagreements are normal. But don't start throwing out insults and expect a dignified reply.
