Lionel Messi - v7

President of FC Barcelona
Hope he comes out and calls Bartomeu for a clueless cunt after Barca are inevitably eliminated from the CL.

Second leg vs Atletico 2015/2016 in the CL was one of the worst and most disappointing game I have seen of him. Pretty much a pedestrian during the entire game while a B2B CL was there for the taking.

I thought the 1st leg was more disappointing. Atletico got a red card in the 35th minute. Barca scored 2 goals in the 2nd half but they showed no hunger to kill off Atletico. I just had a feeling not getting the 3rd goal was going to come back to bite them.

He should definitely play in last game, there will be big break as CL will only return on 7th of August, so no problems with getting rest. My personal feeling is that although surely the physical limitations are quite obvious by know with our team and Messi, the biggest issue is still mental one. Messi has never been a really strong personality, he takes critique far more personally than many other stars and as he has aged, has become also a bit of a sulk in games. I guess being hailed as god and goat and best player ever will put "some" pressure on you, but Messi has not really been very professional in handling it. Like his "retirements" from national team, crucial penalty misses etc all come down to mental weakness. Add here changed priorities with being a lovely family man and you get a player who feels immense pressure, but has hard times coping with it. This also reflects in him disappearing in those crucial moments in CL ties, where some other players would rise to occasion. Surely no 1 man should have this burden on his shoulders, but unfortunately, our entire gameplay has been going through Messi already for years and he feels that he needs to still do it by himself.

Crucial penalty misses?
He scored in Copa quarters in 2011, WC semi in 2014,Copa final in 2015...he is always the first to shot because he's very strong mentally.can't say this about Ronaldo or others egomaniac who goes last to shot.
3 finals in 3 years with Argentina and he isn't a great captain?

We missed billion chance. We got only ourselves to blame.

I guess the point is he couldn't finish as a winner one final.

Mascherano was the captain figure in that WC Argentina team no matter who had the arm band.

Lost 2 finals on penalties, and one in extra time. No matter how good you are, you need some luck. Sometimes it just isn't meant to be. Even though we were the best team when we won our CL's, we had luck along the way. Spain, even though they dominated the final Vs holland, robben missed a one on one before iniesta scored. Small details can have a big impact.

I want to know something from users here. I know for casual football fans if argentina won that final against Germany, Messi would probably be universally regarded as the undisputed GOAT.

But for fans that have been watching him year in year out and the level he has played for such a long time. Would you rate him higher if he had a world cup to his name?

I've always rated players by how good they were on the pitch, with Messi as number 1 followed by R9.

Argentina was utter crap when Mascherano had the armband before Messi. How is that? Messi's fault too?

Mascherano was the captain figure for Argentina and not Messi that is the point.

Them losing the final is not Messis fault and them getting there is not down to his leadership as a captain either.
