Rakitic was a good signing, but not when compared to Kroos. If if was a matter of choosing Kroos vs Rakitic and we picked Rakitic we were dumb to no end.

Kroos is a better player than rakitic individually, but rakitic was perfect for what the team needed at the time and bought balance to right side along with Messi and Dani. Basically doing a water carrier role, something kroos wouldn't be able to do.

Kroos is by far the better player and what a Barca midfielder should be.

Rakitic has never been a top midfielder and given far too much credit for plugging gaps for Alves/Messi in a role many average players could have done.


A big reason he ended up in that role is that Alves was technically better than him and they wanted him in middle of park.

Dani Alves at 32 had a season of his life in that treble season. He was for me the best RB Barca had, maybe ever...

I doubt we would have won the treble with Kroos over Rakitic. I don't like a midfield trio of Kroos-Busquets-Iniesta at all. Two attacking midfielders.

I hated his endorsement of Valverde, but CR endorsed Ancelotti and Florentino still binned him.

That's the thing, in 2015 Lucho wasn't trying to play like pep. He saw the club from the outside and probably decided it needs to change, so he made the team more direct.

The best teams dominate ball and can go direct as Barca did under Pep and were best counter attacking team in world and with ball.

His ideas off how wanted to play changed when it was not working. He did not have some initial plan when signed Rakitic that worked.

For Barcas future Kroos was the better player and has shown it.

Messis' longetivity is surely very impressive, that's something that no one can deny. I never said Maradona and Pele are without a doubt above him, but the arguments to put them above him are credible. Both of them had ample NT success whereas Messi's NT campaigns have been full of tragedies. You could also argue the players at the club level that Messi was surrounded with were much better than the club teammates Maradona had. Xavi and Iniesta are widely considered the greatest midfield duo in history.

I'm not entirely sure how what I said was insulting towards Messi, but Messi is not undeniably the GOAT for many analysts like this forum thinks. Above CR7, sure, but if you go to a pub and claim he's the GOAT you will surely get in an argument or two.

I think you forgot that Pele and Maradona had the better teammates too than Messi in NT. Longevity and being in the top for years competition against another GREAT like Cristiano while breaking records ate the reasos why I will rate Messi above than Pele and Maradona. I won't judge players in a one month event iin what 7 games ?
