Lionel Messi - v7

It's a very bad look for a club that's trying to rebuild and acquire more players in the market. If we get dicked so easily by City, what makes you think other clubs won't try to do the same?

I don't think it's good for the club to be seen as desperately trying to hold players that don't want to play for Barca anymore. On the contrary, we're at the stage were we should be selling everybody that doesn't want to be part in the next project, and looking to get the most money.

Other teams do similar and come out looking stronger. Look at Liverpool with Coutinho.

But Barca don't have any leverage with Messi. In 4 months he can sign precontract with City and we get nothing. And pay a disgruntled player with nearly 100m. gross.

You have to look at the situation with his contract. He doesn't have 3 more years. He has less than a year left.

I don't think he is a moron. He know his action will force Messi and his lawyer to act like this, worse and worse.

Now, the public opinion will start to change. You can see it right here on this forum.

He is a moron football-wise but definitely not about PR and politics.

He seem to be winning in this game.

Yep all he needs is to start a social media #FreeMessi trend

It's the principle of it, though. He has a contract.

Hazard had a year left when he moved to Madrid for 100 million. Messi is easily better than Hazard

Yes, but we have much more to lose than Chelsea. Our leverage is basically very low. if we overplay it, we'll get nothing, but a player paid 100m whle not giving a shit.

Aint no big player is going to want to come to barca after seeing how they are treating the club's greatest player ever.
Madrid must be loving this.

That's not true. This a particular case with little to no resemblance for normal transfer dealings.

Doubt that he will give zero effort, he's a professional and loves football unlike Bale for example.

Even if he plays decently or even good, it's still of not any use. The next season is nearly guaranteed trophy-less and the beginning of a transition period. Messi will change very little.

Holding on to Messi for 1 year would make sense if we had a competitive team that would depend on Messi to fight for big titles. Not the case. With Messi we just lost 8-2 to Bayern ffs .

We have no evidence to say he won't give a shit. He's clearly desperate to leave right now, but if the door does close on his move he might accept that and get back to work like the pro he can be
