Just curious, if Pepe was in Messi's area before the 0-1, you dont think he would have just pulled him or kicked him down?
That was essentially the task Mourinho set him up for in that game anyway.

It's impossible to know. You don't foul players every time when there are 4-5 players behind you who could block him legitly. Pepe could have been dribbled, then decided the team is well covered.

You don't think, hey, I'll kick him because he maybe dribbles 3-4 guys and he scores. Otherwise, Messi would be kicked at every random action in the middle of the park, which doesn't happen, because if it did, teams would finish in 8 players every time.
