Lionel "The Greatest of All Time" Messi V2

So if he come back to Barcelona, it would have been conditional to his amigos staying. Something we can't do right now because of financial constraints and diminishing returns on a sporting level.

Say that again!
So much for all the fluffy talk about the 'project' he wants to win CL again that PSG didn't have

All he wanted is his comfort zone recreated wherever he is.
The irresponsibility of both Laporta and Xavi to actively seek to bring him back given that mindset

It's the bigger picture that Birdy is pointing out. Messi is all about the project and having a competitive team. That means surrounding himself with teammates that make him comfortable these days. Don't forget Jorge Messi cited leaving PSG coz of the project

At the point in his career that he can go and do whatever the fuck he wants, and request whoever the fuck he wants to play with him. I'm sure these guys met up and whatsapped eachother to discuss the three options

a) staying at Barca together
b) finally going to Miami together
c) the unexpected option of going Saudi, get super paid and smoke Shisha together.

In the end Miami won out and it is probably the best choice for the lifestyle these guys want, and that they just don't want to go through the physical demands and pressure for top European football anymore. Well, you can just see that looking at Busquets, he looks as giddy as a kid in a candy shop. Only thing someone needs to tell him that in America, kids in a candy shop get shot.

Anyways, apparantly Inter Miami have agreed a deal with Iniesta. And you know what that means.

Out of curiosity, since when have you been following Barca? Every ultra successful period in football history is followed by years of average/mediocrity. RM went 32 years without an European cup between 1966 and 1988. Bayern went 25 years without one between 1976 and 2001. You have to keep this in mind first and foremost before just looking at the last 5-6 years at Barcelona.

You need to evaluate Messi and his Barcelona impact within the historical picture and not turn into "but but sporting project and amigos" parrot like you've been doing recently. Not hating on you as I do like your posts but I see one variation of this theme or another in your posts on Messi these days.

The broader picture is: Messi's rise (along with Xavi, Iniesta, Pep as the other main contributors) coincided with 4 CLs and 10 LLs in the most competitive era in LL history (AM being multiple time CL finalist, RM having their strongest era also or at least joint strongest, Sevilla winning like 5 Europa cups). 1,000 G+A. We also beat RM the majority of the time and handed them historic beatdowns during this 15 year stretch.

Messi loves money. He likes control. Not a single poster here has claimed he was a charity worker. Imagine you are a consensus GOAT in your profession...you wouldn't want to be paid and have things your way? But even then, I've found him to be reasonable relative to what he brings to the table. You simply can't argue with the results. For Barca, those CLs and LLs, and for Argentina, he led them to 2 WC finals, won Argentina the world cup, and other continental cups too.

Contrast that with wastemen like Lewa or Dembele, especially the latter whose agent tried to hold us hostage in the past and all this waste of jersey has contributed so far has been FUCK ALL in the business end of the season in CL or even key LL games. At least FUCK ALL compared to the 250 million we've invested in him so far. Messi's 550 million look like a fucking bargain in comparison, and let's not forget, he was dirt cheap for us, for his playing level, in his absolute prime (08-15).

What I would counter you and Birdy, and others on, is to focus on the other, unproven deadweights we have. Bartomeu in the past, Countinho, Dembele etc. etc. Don't waste your energy shitting on GOATs like Messi, Pep, Xavi, Iniesta. More often than not, they'll end up making you look like a :clown:

What you don't understand and shines out glaringly through this post is that no player (as great and as impactful for the history of a club) is greater than the club itself.
Legacy is for the historian and the historical discussion, not a factor that should actively play any role in devising a sustainable strategy for any club.
Right now Messi offers two dead legs on the pitch and the burden of his transferable Amigo comfort zone.

The logic you develop here is the perfect legitimation of the Amigo culture that ruined my club for a good half of a decade and made us the laughing stock of Europe. We are still struggling to get out of the mess that culture created. Bartomeu and his gang employed the exact same shitty rationale you put up here when he destroyed the club with his legacy contracts.

Wanting or not wanting him back this summer was really separating the wheat from the chaff.
Guess where you and all the other poor fellas that will buy an MLS subscription belong to...

Bartomeu was just throwing money around when he offered a big contract for Frenkie and also paid a handful for Coutinho, Dembele and Griezmann. You can't blame the 'amigo culture' for that.

If a guy like Bartomeu offers a big contract, then of course you would take it. The players doesn't know the financial situation of the club and that's not their job responsibility.

> No player is bigger than the club
> Shits on Xavi and actual Barca legends with immense contributions to stan for Dembele who cost us 250 million so far and has contributed 0 in CL in 6 years.

Simmer down

Wasn't expecting any better response from you.
I guess you haven't passed any reading comprehension exam in your life.
It shows.

Yes he was throwing money like a mad man to everyone.
Problem is the rationale he used to give money in legacy contracts to the Amigos in particular, which were more money than on Frenkie Cou and Dembele (despite these contracts being also crazy and unjustified), is strikingly similar to the essay KL wrote to defend the Amigo culture.

A player is not responsible for the financial situation of the club is correct for the most part.
For the most part, because there is a tiny part where ethical and moral considerations come into play precisely for those people (like Messi and the Catalans) that supposedly love the club
