Obviously it is enhanced further it he wins it. But will roundly be held up as GOAT regardless and this WC has added to it.

Barring some kind of footballing miracle from Ronaldo in his year or so left in football Messi just about edged him regardless of anything that happens in the final. There isn't much of an argument to be made for Ronaldo other than he has more CLs.


Messi got that GOAT title regardless.

Messi had already edged him before this and widened it.

Ronaldo will retire having never scored/assisted or got a MOTM award in any WC knockout game.

Messi will retire second on G/A in WCs.

Messi has better goals rate, better assist rate, more trophies and will probably go down as most decorated player in history and having won 7 balondors. While been light years ahead in WC performances.

Only Ronaldo fan boys will try to find 'reasons' for him being better.

Ronaldo is no better than Maradona or Pele. So him being in the GOAT conversation is pointless.

2nd to Messi or 4th it does not matter. If it has been decided he is not better than Messi he is out of the GOAT discussion. GOAT discussion is to establish who is the best. Claim to that title becomes impossible if even one player has been accepted as has been better.

He can't be in GOAT conversation(regardless of Messi existing or not) because he automatically starts below Maradona/Pele.

Ronaldos club career dwarfs Maradonas in terms of achievements.

Maradona has luxury of almost exclusively being in the argument due to his absolute peak in one international tournament.

Depends how much hang on that one World Cup.

Okay. Sorry. Maybe taken this too far. My point is just Ronaldo definitely should be in discussion one of best players of all time which is different from best of all time. Best of all time has already lost that claim because messi accepted as better player.

Maradona also won the title 2 times iirc and the Uefa cup with Napoli , that also adds greatness to his name , or ?
