Trebles shouldnt play a role when judging about Cl. In cl Ronaldo is leading the GOAT debate, while in LL Messi is leading the GOAT debate. Incredible that we happen to have the best players in each of the best competitions at the same time. We are blessed guys.

Mbappe is the "better" player at the moment, but my issue is "mbappe is using messi as a wall right now for passes he can latch on to before attempting shots".

But at the end of the day, this game is about goals and assists, because that's what wins games. And last I checked, Messi leads the team in the CL.

Because if we start looking at things outside of G+A and subjective criteria like aesthetics and coaching/teammates, I can start making cases for Messi over CR7 in CL already, as you can for your favorite player(s).

yes, he is the leading CL scorer for psg atm but i dont think that actually reflects his impact vis a vis mbappe. that said, i am now wading into subjective-ish territory and since i previously cited the primacy of facts, i can go no further  so let us leave it there until we see more CL psg action

He carried the team(a shit one) in the 2018/2019 edition until the semifinals. Also, he is not a defender. Not a coach either.

I think this season proves he Carried us for years.

The team this season isn’t really comparable to what the squad was for the last several years without Messi. Most of the players on the pitch nowadays are either new to the team (Gavi, Nico, Araujo, Dest, Memphis, Abde, LDJ, etc.) or washed up versions of their former selves (Busi, Pique, Alba, MATS).

You can make a bit of a comparison to last season but we had Messi, Griezmann, and Dembele fit pretty much all last season in attack. If we had the same attack this season but with Memphis/Aguero/Fati taking Messi’s spot, then I don’t think there would be as big of a drop off from 20-21.

You talk like there would be a big difference if we had those fit( dembouz) and in the squad( griezzyboy). Do people forget how those ridiculed last season on here? And for good reason, they were mostly abysmal. I guess with those two we would have had 3-4 more points. Not even close to top 4 anyway.

They might not be not brilliant but they’d decent enough to get the team over the line in a lot of these league matches. Even someone like Paco Alcacer would have helped a lot so far this season.

We got 79 points last season and are on course for 57 this campaign. My guess is that the same squad as last season but with Memphis taking Messi’s spot would get around 70 points this season which would probably be enough for top 4 in the end.

Messi was irrelevant in cl for some KO matches across 14 seasons and is labeled "disaster in cl". That's some standard for you.
Carrying a corpse of a team to cl semis (probably a cl title if we got past pool) by being the only creator and scorer and just needing the rest of the team to keep their shit under pressure, but still being labeled "shit in cl" that season.
While CR has others save the team in difficult moment (looking at Ramos for example) and of course it's ok, no one asks everything from one player in a team o 11.
Double standards applied and it is understandable, since you can't compare a once in a lifetime player vs a pretty good goalscorer with the same standards, you need to cut some slack to the later.
