Looks like he just wants them to fire him finally, so he can take his money and leave. If you want to get out and not make it too obvious, that's how you usually do it. Weak and confused statements the club can't tolerate for long.
I think he understands by now, that the longer he stays at United, the more his reputation is going to suffer. But he can't also simply pack and leave, because first he'll lose a lot of money and secondly, he would be marked as a quitter and many clubs avoid such coaches.

To be fair to them, West Ham have been poor under Lopetegui and are missing Kudus. United might well win in London. However, even if they do, you can almost guarantee they will do it without convincing. Ten Hag will also likely come out with some bollocks about how they're turning the corner if they do win.
