Martin Montoya

¡Gr?*cies Xavi!
It took some time for Carvajal to get going at Madrid, let's hope that's the case with Montoya.

That was because Carlo rarely played him after he came back from Germany having been voted best RB of the league. He trusted Arbeloa too much. Montoya is rarely played but still sucks when he does and has never really proved himself in another team.

Yea, and it's not even about performances, because great players can have bad games anytime. Hell, Alexis had an awful 8 months or so. Suarez has an awful scoring rate so far, and so on. With Montoya, it is down to the value of the player, which is not that great. I never saw huge potential in him in the first place tbh.

He has more than earned that sum, for how much he gave to the team in the last 7 years.

Alves want 3 year contract ,he will be 32 by the end of the season and he is playing in a position that very few players can maintain being good at such old age and he already showed signs of consistent declining
The board has very good reason for not resigning him ,it might be essential for next season but it will hunt us long term paying such huge wage for old player and it will be almost impossible to get him out or our wage bell

Montoya is pretty limited, his offensive contribution is almost non existent and there's no link up with attacking players to be seen as it is with Alves.

Mediocre at best, Barca B level.

8M/year is a lot. But we can afford to give him a 1 year extension I think. Or, at the very least, a 6 month extension.

Alves has the upper hand in negotiations. Either he gets what he wants or cashes in at another team. Gets himself a fat signing bonus in the process too. It wouldn't be hard for him to find another top team to play in, that's for sure.

The board messed up again and we need to pay him big now.

Montoya's biggest problem is his mediocre first touch which basically renders him useless for the inside runs against tight defenses. Whenever you ask him to stay wide and put in crosses, he is doing alright.

Yesterday he got into good crossing positions only to find nobody attacking the near post area. Elche only had to put a whole lot of bodies around the penalty spot to defend against the crosses. And with Montoya's passing being not a precise as Alves', he was not likely to find a teammate inside the box to cross to.

Alves is maybe marginally ahead of montoya. Its difficult to compare shit with shit but montoya is probably less shit than alves.

They both actually are worse than Alves. Very much worse. Alves is the best rb on the squad, by a good margin.

+1 His link up play with Messi is amazing at times. Obviously defensively unreliable but when we dominate possession that isn't much of a problem.. But still better than Montoya and Douglas by far.

Sure.

Seriously now, they're not even in the same league.

You're 100% right. Alves has also upped his game considerably in 2015, so there is just no comparing them now. In fact, evey day that goes by without his contract being renewed is troubling, Bartomeu needs to get his ass into gear and get it done. I can't even begin to imagine a full season with Monty and Douglas as the only true RBs. :shakeshead:

Montoya has been playing more lately and I was hoping to see some improvement in his game, but that hasn't happened.

Really??

At least montoya was at the back their trying to defend unlike alves who crosses, loses the ball and does not track back. You can replace that vine with a shitty alves cross.Montoya fucking up in defence will always be outnumbered with shitty alves crosses that are useless as hell.
