Martin Montoya

Montoya was pretty damn good in most of the games he played this season. In fact, every time he played in his natural RB position, he was great. He was awesome against Real Madrid. Early in the season he was good enough to challenge Alves for the starting spot. This is not a matter of proving he's good enough to get minutes. Something's wrong here. And FFS, do not loan or sell him. How in the hell would the team go through a season with only Adriano (who gets injured every time he sets foot on a pitch) to cover for both Alba and Alves?

Maybe the end-of-season minutes will be enough to convince him to stay but I don't think that's the big problem. We'll have to see if the youngsters get more playing time when Tito returns. I don't know if that's why they've been hesitant, but it's a possibility. Honestly with him in right back we would do much better in clasicos as he would not get completely humiliated by Cristiano like Pique has (Dani isn't even back there defending most of the time).

Exactly. Monotoya's best match was the 2-2 Classico this season imo.

Now Sport & MD with stories that Montoya & his agent are looking for a transfer or loan due to a lack of minutes...Sounds like something indeed has been going on behind the scenes with the player

Montoya only took part in one of the last 14 games, because of the competition but also because the club thinks he should train harder [ser]

Smoke without fire, or do you guys think there is something to this?

In the bigger picture, I think some bad signs of things to come for cantera players...Thiago is really the only recent cantera player to have integrated into the squad/rotation and even he hasn't really played consistently - and he is considered the standout talent for his generation of players...Tello, Bartra, Cuenca, Romeu, Fontas, Roberto, Muniesa and Montoya all made names for themselves in the lower division and have dreamed of featuring for the first team...Muniesa accepted a loan move before getting injured and now willingly playing again for the B team, like Roberto, to win a place within the team...Fontas took the loan option as did Romeu...Tello was deemed surplus but impressed at Espanyol to be brought back and earned minutes with the first team, only to fall out of the rotation as well...Combined with his protracted renewal & buyout issue, clearly the player is concerned about how his career/minutes will be handled...And despite being productive in his limited minutes, those minutes remain limited...Montoya was ascending up through the B team, La Roja and impressed with the 1st team but has somehow fallen out of rotation as well...Now rumours of displeasure with his minutes and talk of a loan/transfer...Cuenca accepted a loan due to recovery from major knee surgery...Bartra was voted the Segunda's standout defensive player, featured only briefly for the 1st team and then was injured...If he fails to see minutes soon, will he too want to look elsewhere?

Overall, however, if you're not named Deulofeu, makes you wonder what future cantera players are thinking in terms of their chances with the 1st team...It's one thing perhaps to not quite have the quality but yet another to show the quality is there and still rarely factor into the rotation...This was discussed even in the media over the past year as to how the club will contend with many of the prospects that will be looking for first team football in the coming season or two...Does Rosell et al have a plan for these players or will the players begin to think we're seeing another dip in the cycle of promoted talents within and realize they need to look outside the club?

I think it's a legitimate question because you have to believe other young talents and their agents at the club look at what is happening and question what will be best for their career...Of course, no one wants to become another Gai Assulin or Dos Santos

How can tito give the cantera prospects the priority, When at the same time he's demanded to win a triple every year, In a club where winning only one major trophy is considered a disaster, This is the real dilemma the coaching staff is facing.
For you us to have a chance to win a triple or a double, We need to play with the best players in the world, Unfortunately not every one coming fresh out of la masia is world class quality, Not yet anyway, It's unfair to demand major trophies and at the same time demand more chances for the youngsters, It doesn't work like that.

Who says priority?...Minutes are earned but yet how can Bartra, Tello & Montoya disappear like they do from the rotation (When it's not an injury) and be told they are counted on?...It doesn't work like that either

There will be repercussions for the way things have been handled under Rosell if it continues down this path...It'll also give cantera players more reasons to consider the poaching route as it would insure a payday as well as possibility for play in a first team when they see others are failing to achieve it even when they are promoted...nevermind extended as in the case of Tello

There were PLENTY of games this season where Montoya and Bartra could have gotten minutes, without risking any titles. Hell, we already lost two titles, without them. This is not a plausible explanation, as Montoya has shown repeatedly that he's good enough to play in La Liga.

I genuinely believe he's going to be Spain's first choice RB in a couple of years. Has he been misbehaving that the staff are punishing him? What other explanation could there be?

I agree with FCBarca, when Alexis is under-performing, why not give Tello a start or two? Starting only 6 games and playing only 14 is not nearly enough at this point of the season when he's been impressive when playing, meanwhile Pedro and Alexis aren't actually playing all that well (as much as I love both)... Not to mention that benching a big player for a few games can give them an often much needed wake up call.

With Thiago it's different, he's been good but so has Cesc and of course Xavi-Ini in midfield is what we all like to see....

Sergi has been more a victim to Song's failures at CB and relative success in defensive midfield later on, and of course having the best defensive midfielder in the world (Busi) to play second fiddle to.

Trust is something earned, Tito doesn't have to play montoya just because he is a la masia, He has to earn his minutes and proves he's the better pick, If he can't shake off adriano then it's his problem.

I think he is much better RB this year than Adriano but it seems that this isn't the management opinion
