I don't get it BBZ, why don't you like Halilovic? It seems like you're always criticizing him? Genuine question.

Of course we have the money, but I was talking about the ripple effect on existing players and to a lesser extent, future new signings if we had offered him that kind of money. I expect to up the salaries of existing players to not cause any problems in the dressing room.

Yes. If we paid Odegaard that much money, then we'd have to give every player (at least the stars) from Barca B to the Juvenil B a raise. And then we'd set a precedent of high salaries for our young stars, etc., etc.

I don't see any problems in him earning more if at the same age he's more talented.

The rest is up to the clubs management.

If they don't want to risk it in fear of what you are talking about, fine. But what you are talking about is the same that can happen when players are older.

If your club is mismanaged (PSG) there can be huge tensions because of the difference in salaries among players, but you won't see that kind of tensions in RM, Barca etc.

It's very rare when it happens in "real" big clubs (see Di Maria), and even when it happens, it ends up being more deals between gentlemen than anything.

We learned Di Maria was thinking his wage was too low for years, yet RM was managed well enough for it to never create big problems. Actually, despite being displeased, Di Maria had his best years.

Exactly. I was thinking about how Goetze's salary allegedly drove (at least partially) Kroos away.

BBZ, You are way off mate. For starters: Halilovic didn't flirt with every major club in Europe. He only wanted to sign for Barca.

The thing is we have no way of actually knowing that. And by that I mean, that perhaps the club thought somebody at the academy was as talented as Odegaard and they saw no reason to pay him the big bucks.

And Goetze ended up being the one who scored the winning goal for germany. A hero. Something that will make Bayern shines for years because he plays there.

If you only want to look only at the bad things (Kroos left) fine, but I dare betting that if Bayern had to do it again, they would do exactly the same.

They bet, they won. Kroos left, that doesn't mean bayern is weaker now.

Not with every major club but reportedly these clubs wanted him: BVB, Arsenal, Spurs, Man Utd and, of course, Barca.

You don't know if he wanted to only sign for Barca.

People are talking about hypoteical scenario.

I can write one too. We sign Odegaard. Halilovic is displeased and leave because Barca doesn't want to raise his wage.

Odegaard becomes messi #2 at 20yo, Halilovic who moved to Chelsea becomes Bojan #2.

Easy to write stories.

He is from my country, I am watching him since his first steps and I never thought he is anything special.
Then he was hyped, and sadly Barca "bought" a hype.
Why I don't like him?
I don't know, why no one loves Sergi Roberto?
Because we are watching him for years and he is not anything special.

You can read more in his topic.
He was arrogant in the past, had wrong attitude, he is a one trick pony, he was always very selfish, he is physically very weak, he doesn't seem too intelligent on the field (and you can't learn that), his off the ball movement when we have possession is poor, and he hasn't worked too much for the team in general or in the defense.

And now, probably even our president thinks: We have Halil, we don't need other players (like Odegaard).
I am not comparing Sergi to Halil now, this was just to explain how I see him.

And then I am annoyed when some of our fans (like you in this topic) reply: We don't need Odegaard, we have Halilovic :(

Hard to tell, this guy looks so much different.
We will see soon, maybe the Norwegian league was really that poor.

I dont think odegaard - or should I say team odegaard - main Motivation was money. He was looking after the best total package. At least his interviews could be interpreted that way. But too be honest, I think Perez stunt - as bertus said - did it, or made the final push. Training with ronaldo, pictures, jets. Perez invested time and energy here, and team odegaard bought it.

I think Its a bad move. Not neccessarily because he Went to Madrid, but because the level he needs to reach is skyhigh - the best of the best. He wont Get much first team practice the next years - real dosent work like that. He Will Get his debut, and then there Will be a lot of Fuss. Then silcence and b-team. Actually norwegian football is close to if not better than where is going to play the next year. Ajax was the perfect choice as laudrup said. Cl, decent league, playing time, and then move on - in his early 20's.

Thanks for replying. And that's not how I meant it; I should have been more clear. Halilovic was wanted across Europe last season, and we got our man. And this season it was Odegaard and we missed out on him to Real (at least partially because we're transfer banned). You win some, and you lose some. You can't get all the talents.

That was kind of my point. That all we can do now is speculate since we don't have inside information--beyond rumors suggesting that Barca left a bad impression on Odegaard's father when he visited.

Again, it's time to move on.
