A player should go to the club which can make him better and in Hummels' case give him the opportunity to become the best at his position. If he thinks Dortmund is that club and feels comfortable there than he won't care about the rest.
There is much more in a footballers life than playing alongside Messi.
I would like him to come to us as well, though.

He is a centerback. He wouldn't even "play" with Messi as in actually combining with him. There wouldn't be the temptation of building a fearsome duo unlike maybe for Neymar with Messi or Bale with Ronaldo. There won't be headlines about Messi's and Hummels' glorious partnership every day on Mundo and Sport. Messi is also quite the introvert. Chances are high Hummels and Messi wouldn't do much outside of the football pitch unless Mats grows a pony tail. I very much doubt that is a big argument for a professional football player, more so than leaving family and friends in Germany. Ask T. Silva or even Marquinhos how much they cared about "playing with the GOAT" when they rather prefered the simple cash (not that they would have starved at Barca).
