Don't see a problem with him being cocky, even if it's true. Some of the best players in the world are cocky. What matters is if he delivers on the field. If he delivers, he can be cocky as much as he wants, while being professional. Cocky doesn't mean undisciplined and unprofessional.
This is simple. When he played, he showed quality and desire to work hard on the field. So, whatever his attitude is, his performances seem to benefit from that, not suffer from it.
Normally, bad attitude is translated into bad performances.
