Memphis Depay

True, but the other options are Suarez, SS Griezmann, CF 33 years old-doesnt move off the ball Messi, Jesus, Lautaro and 17 years old Fati.

So, Depay is the best option out of these.

I would rather if we kept it simple instead of being too risky with players who most likely won't fit. If you look at all the top teams most of them plays with or has a conventional forward. Bayern (Lewandowski), Madrid (Benzema), Dortmund (Halaand), PSG (Icardi), Liverpool (Firmino). Juventus had Higuain but i doubt they would put Dybala or some other winger there.

Maybe we could try to see how Depay fits but very likely it won't work at all and January we would scramble and panic buy a Braithwaite.

Lyon Fans: He doesn't work as a left sided player, or a pure winger. He's trash there. He's a central player that works best behind a 9.

PSV fans: He was shit as a winger in United he shouldn't be used like that again, he's worked hard to become a quality player in central areas behind a 9. He can do a "job" as a sole 9, but he's sub-optimal there. Worse as a winger.

Barcelona fans: We know he's not a true winger or a true 9, but we want him to play there anyways because we need a player there and we believe our world class staff can successfully convert him to play in the position and role we need. Signing players for their actual roles is too hard.

te amo barca and Richard.H also jumped to rescue poor serghei  pathetic stuff

The one who's pathetic is you. Can't believe what you wrote in the Wijnaldum thread   "iT iS dUe To tHe NiCkNaMe"

Your arguments are consistently ridiculous, attack a strawman or caricatured versions of those of posters you disagree with. You add absolutely no substance to any discussion whatsoever.

I am living inside your head rent free

For 25-30 mil I would take Maxi Gomez. He would be around the same price as Depay and at least would perform way in that role.

Maxi Gomez is like Suarez except he's in his prime. Very slow player. Don't want any more slow players. If to choose between Depay and Maxi for similar money, I'd choose Depay for sure. Or keep the money.

For the price its worth the risk but i get a bad feeling about this guy. Feels like hes a big fish in a little pond type player, we all saw what happened when he moved to United under van Gaal, another dutch NT manager. Ligue 1 has alot of talent but a fair share of busts too.. remember Malcom?

Depay talks the talk but im not sure he'll ever walk the walk at Barca

Just a quick question: were you always this way? You have been on this forum for years but I only noticed you this year (because of your nonsensical posts, of course). Part of me wonders whether I just was not paying attention. Maybe you used to be a good poster once...

Feels like a panic buy just to get an offensive player.
He'd be a great backup for that price if we'd have a functioning attack, but we don't.

Is it too naive to think Messi could play as 9 in a 4-2-3-1? Just get the ball to him close to the box and he'll be more dangerous than all the alternatives we keep reading about.

IMHO he is not a panic buy but a player that coach requested. Koeman knows him and is perfectly aware of his capabilities. Lautaro on the other hand, would be a far worse buy at 100 mil.

I don't know why but I got a feeling he will fail again if signed like he failed at United.. Barca is currently almost as low as United was 5 years ago when Depay signed for them and he was a flop in United, sold 2 years later.. He just doesn't seem like a player who can shine in big clubs but at least he won't be expensive like Lautaro.. 25M is not that much in these days..

He's older and more mature now. Also, expectations for him now won't be as high as they were at United when he was expected to become their next superstar.

Gnabry, De Bruyne, Salah,... also didn't make it at big clubs in their early twenties, then joined smaller clubs to rebuild their career and succeeded. Sometimes players are just not ready yet for big clubs when they sign for them. Or they sign for a wrong club at the wrong time etc.

I don't think Memphis will fully revive his career and turn into a worldclass player like before mentioned players but he deserves a second chance and having a coach who knows him well will also help him to adapt.

Also, I'll take a solid squad player for a few years for 20-25m as a good deal every time. We need a better overall depth as much as we need starters and Depay can provide at least that. Even if we'll buy a better striker next summer we can still keep Depay as a backup for most forward positions, even more so if Messi and/or Griezmann leave.

If we weren't in the shitter finances wise I would be OK with this transfer but we aren't and we already have many forwards, yet can't say the same for the mid and defence. I feel like the 25m could be better spent elsewhere or kept in the bank for the next seasons. We need world class players in several positions, not squad options. Squad options will be available every transfer window, it's not like the Depays of the world will vanish.

@FabrizioRomanoMemphis Depay have agreed personal terms with Barcelona after contacts started days ago. But final agreement is still to be reached between Bar?a and OL - talks ongoing. Bar?a are negotiating also with Wijnaldum agents - no opening bid to Liverpool yet.

We're on our way!
