Nelson Semedo

That's the thing about attacking Full backs, you always run that risk of at least one of them being caught to far up field at times and they won't be able to get back quick enough to defend a counter. It's happened with Alves,Alba, Roberto etc.
Yes, And i remember they got berated every time that happened, Especially with Dani alves, I don't see why we should turn a blind eye this time around when it comes to semedo, And i'd like to point out, Getting caught up in the counter happens more frequently with semedo than with roberto, And this observation can be seen on most of the matches semedo played this season.

Again, I really like semedo, But he still isn't an undisputed starter for RB , It's a close competition with him and roberto, But at this point in time, I'd be somewhat more comfortable with SR starting as RB, Especially in a CL match, He is much more careful going forward and has smarter decision making, Until semedo improves the defensive decision making aspect of his game.

Semedo is to blame for that one, but it's normal to be tired after playing 180 mins in 4 days, coming back from a one month lay off. Usually, not only is he back in time to defend his flank, but he bails out the central defenders too on counters because both Pique and Umtiti are pretty slow.

So, I'd rather have Semedo at RB every time the other team has pacy players who can win 1 vs 1s in the wing or can get behind the CBs. on the run.

Feel a bit sorry for him cause of the last goal. He was one of the better ones in this horror show.
But jamdev will surely tell us where he should pass. Maybe the invisible Roberto. There was fucking no one...

exactly. he was by far the standout defender, pique (especially) and umtiti are the ones who made dzeko look like lewandowski tonight, not semedo

Anyway, it is nice to point out that Semedo's player scored for 3:0.
It is interesting to watch how good he jumped in this action:

[gfy]RecklessLawfulBaboon[/gfy]

Also, those 2-3 tackles in the first and second leg vs Roma with his tackles with shoulders in the box were quite dangerous, on the verge of a penalty.

Let's hope that our next RB will be a better buy than this guy.

so he's to blamed for not being able to contain a 6"3 centre back in an aerial duel? whilst suarez refused to pick up a man who walked into his zone?

are you just deliberately trolling now?

Our whole team is incapable of containing anyone who can jump and head the ball.
That's another "beauty" of Pep's legacy here (short, technical players).

Alba can't jump.
Semedo can't jump too high either.
Busi is tall but can't jump.
Messi can't jump.
Iniesta, no comment.
Pique, Umtiti, Raki and Suarez are only players who can defend against all other opponents.

Every corner against us is like a penalty shoot with our midgets team against any decent big team who have 5-6 players taller than 180cm.
Which is more or less ANY big team, except City and Barca.

About Suarez and Semedo in that action, well they probably practiced this on training grounds.
But since on playing grounds OUR team defends only against Barca's players, then on training grounds our defenders probably look good and strong while they defend set pieces.
Again, because they have to play against other midgets on training grounds.

Somebody probably instructed Semedo to mark Manolas.
Or... our defense against set pieces is totally random and we decide in a moment who will mark whom?

So rather than criticizing a 5"9/5"10 player for not being able to keep a 6"3 giant who is known for being aerially dominant from heading the ball, shouldn't we be criticizing the manager for not tasking someone of a greater height (Pique, Umtiti, etc.) to man-mark Roma's greatest aerial threat bar Eden Dzeko?

Only a clueless idiot would have a full back marking the other teams second biggest outfield player. Valverde is a clueless fraud whose been exposed in the most humiliating fashion. Not only is he too much of a coward to start Dembele or bench an underperforming Iniesta, but he's even afraid of assigning the right markers to the opposing teams biggest aerial threats!
