Neymar Jr. - v5

Let me make it clear that this is all hypothetical.

Don't believe he'll leave now, nor do I believe PSG are able to pay the buyout.

If Neymar releases himself from the contract and leaves through the back door, he's almost up there with Figo for me. Ditching Barca like that for PSG after all the troubles the club have had to go through.....would truly be a traitor.

I don't get this... I mean, a good portion of the fanbase (if we use this forum as a sort of representative for the general fan base. I doubt in reality we can, but let's just assume so for the sake of the argument) would gladly swap him for a couple of other players, so why would he be a traitor if he leaves, if his own fans don't even want him here?

Up until the RM rumors started to surface, no-one wanted Figo out - granted that was way before I started frequenting Barça forums such as this one, but the fans I spoke to on a regular basis absolutely adored Figo and couldn't dream of offloading him for other players. I really don't think Nerman leaving would come even close to the treachery the Portuguese committed back then.

Anyhow, point is moot and it's all pure speculation of course, as I can't possibly imagine him wanting out.

Can someone clarify to me how the release clause works?

Let's say a club activates the player's release clause (in this case ~200 mil for Neymar). does that mean Neymar HAS to be released or does it still need the player's approval? None of this could happen if Neymar disagrees to it right?

If club is willing to let player go and clubs want to stay in good relationships then they can negotiate a fee that is a bit above player's clause, like Madrid did with Ceballos recently.

If club is not willing to let player go (like Vitolo transfer to Atletico last week) then buying club gives player money so he can buy out his contract. In other words this means he unilaterally breaks his contract with current club. Player alone must deposit that money at LFP headquarter so this means he agrees to go to another club. If he doesn't want to leave then nothing happen and buying club wouldn't even bother giving money to the player.

Here is a good explanation...

He will leave this club eventually, there is too much money to be made for him and he needs to be the main man at some point. It was meant to be here after messi but he may change his mind.

Because him leaving through the backdoor without telling yhe club, puts Barcelona in a bad position where they'll be left with sorting out the midfield and then the left wing.

The money will make it worse for us with teams being in a position to demand much more for their players in an already difficult and inflated market.

It's about having some decency after all the troubles the club have gone through with his signing after the shady deal HIS father initiated through his company N&N.

I doubt the majority of the fanbase would want him out unless he himself want to leave, but if that's the case, the least he can do is leave in a decent way giving the club a chance to negotiate with the buying club rather than having to deal with the shock of a player going behind their backs like that.

Buyout clauses are BS.

Spain is a fucked up country with such messed up laws everywhere. Puts every club at disadvantage when other leagues don't have it.

Still makes no sense for Neymar to want to go to another club and ask them to give up their best player as part of the deal.

You've made your point clear already. Not sure why you keep repeating it.

Simple: Stay or give the club a chance to negotiate a higher fee or a player in exchange. My opinion. Whether it makes sense to you or not, is not my concern.

Yeah, I see your point, but still don't agree. If I was in a similar position, where I felt my own people were turning against me, I really wouldn't give a crap about them. I know there's a difference between the club itself and the fans, but I don't think I've ever seen a star player, who's performing this well (yeah, yeah in my eyes at least) at any club being spoken so negatively of by such a large portion of the fans.

Totally agree and those that are the most negative will be the ones acting betrayed.
