Neymar Jr. - v5

Depends on who you're talking about, here. I've been criticizing him a lot here lately, if you bother to find my posts here. But there's also a few that only see the negatives, and scrutinize everything to a comical level. That makes the other side also overreact, and the thread becomes a shit show. If people were only actually criticizing... but I've seen people here say that the problem with this current Barça is Neymar. I've also seen one saying he's better now than he was 2 years ago, which is also delusional. It's like a twilight zone sometimes.

He's been below his best for a good while, and his finishing is atrocious. But he's also tireless all game. The goal today happened because he was pressing the opposition at the 90th minute. It's not black and white, "he sucks, period". That lack of nuance is something I find worrisome if you're looking to have an actual productive discussion.

And now, there's many people saying the same, that the hate he gets here is quite bigger than other places, and I'm still seeing people denying that.

I would say that if Neymar were to play on his hype level the situation would certainly look a bit different. Maybe he would have at least 10 goals by now out of which at least one would save our asses, like for example today.
Thing is, I'm not certain that what we are getting with Neymar lately, we wouldn't get from any other above average gifted player but with less expenditures.

So, that criticism is a reflection of his hype and worship.

It takes two to tango.

When you start calling people with different opinions for fanboys or ridicule them because they weren't born the same year as you and started following Barca earlier, then you're already being disrespectful and "abusing" them yourself.

- I'm not even a real Barca fan, I started watching Barca games due to the MSN, and it is entirely possible that when Messi leaves or quits and Neymar will be playing elsewhere, I will not be close to this team anymore.

Well that explains a lot. At least you admit being a player fan. Bet there are dozen more here in disguise.

Potroh never admitted to being a player fan, just that he started watching Barca because of MSN, arguably the best attacking trio in football ever.
It only takes a football fan to appreciate that.

You should read his post again then. It's fairly reasonable deduction that he cares more about those players than Barca.

Doesn't prove anything. Once Neymar leaves he might stop watching him altogether when he plays for a different club.
Only proves he cared for the MSN episode at Barca.

I'd like to know where this "hype level" stuff began. It's also something I don't see elsewhere. Those comparison with Messi were always stupid. Any player compared to the GOAT will look bad. And the thing is he is our player, not someone else. The thing I find unforgivable about a player is laziness. At least this he isn't. He'll regain his form eventually, when the team is playing under a clear system again. Neymar and most of the players who are currently underperforming.

Also, I know for a fact that one of his most fervent haters wants him to fail, even if this means Barça failing too, so he can say he was "right about him all along". I can't support that, it's petty, immature and ridiculous. And surely not a thing a real Barça fan would want to happen. That's why what you call "criticism", I know it's something else, from some people here.

This....is what I am really afraid of of being the case with some of the criticasters here.

So you think he'll stop hogging the ball, won't run into a wall of players with his dribbling, will start scoring, will start passing the ball on time, won't get into fights with opponents...all that once the system is setup?

Having fixed the system will not mean Neymar will magically turn into a perfect player. lol

It's possible he'll improve. I'm not sure he can get any worse. But so many players have been unusually abysmal this season. The lack of structure is a much bigger problem. We only attack through the left now. This makes it easier for the defenses to neutralize our players, as they have one sector less to worry about. Messi needs to go back to rw, the right side and midfield need to be fixed.

No, it's not you. And yes, you know him.

I think a dozen guys received that PM where he says that he want Neymar to fail so he can laugh at everyone who thought and wanted him to succeed here. Doubt he sent it to those critical of him though as that would make no sense.

Perfect? Who said anything about being perfect?

You listed all of the criticism casted upon him on this forum. Taking all of those away would mean you expect him to never be subject to criticism here(unless he developes different ones). Even with a fixed system Neymar might commit to mistakes. What is important is that his performance overall improves, not that all of his mistakes are immediately eliminated.
