For guys who are shocked that we will spend 300-400 Millions on 2 attackers and we won't invest in defense, well, it has always been like that at Barca.
Except in the last 10 years when we were blessed with Puyol, Messi, Xavi, Iniesta and Busi.

You guys have to realize that Pep's era and Messi-Xavi-Iniesta, the way how we were wiser regarding transfers and how we kept players for 8-15 years was not a rule, but more like a crazy exception.
This show with Neymar and with buying 2 expensive CFs (and we'll probably buy some 2M LB and a 5M CB) is a good old Barca from 90s and early 00s.
With Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Busi, Puyol=we were lucky with La Masia and we didn't need to spend 500 Millions on those players.
Further, that generation won a lot=so we didn't need to buy too many new players (like we always do) and we had a chance to think and plan calmer.
But now, when the luckiest La Masia generation is finished and we aren't winning (in a CL) anymore, we are back to a good old panic-buy/drunken millionaires Barca

In 90s in some moments, we had 5 world class forwards and and we always had a horrible defense.
We are back to a good old times

People who are younger or who started following Barca during Pep, probably have a wrong picture about us.
How we are calm, smart, objective, more than a club. How we are NOT Galacticos.
Well, again, that was just a weird exception and not the true, good old Barca.

I mean in knockout rounds. We have scored just 2 away goals in the last 3 years in knockouts. During Real Madrid's triple CL win they scored 15 away goals in R16, quarters, and semis. Liverpool in this season alone scored 7 away goals in knockout rounds. When we won in 2015 we also scored 7 away goals. Away goals is a crucial factor in the CL. Our attack is too poor. We don't scare teams on the road, which means they can dominate us.

We scare teams, and rightly so, that is why we put 3 on Liverpool (can't remember any other team doing that to them all season). We put what 6 on PSG 2 years ago, 4 on Roma. He also can score plenty on the road in very intense matches--see @Spurs, @Real, @Atletico.

Why we have completely lost our caca in away legs in the knockout round of the CL is complicated. Most of all a mix of hunger, togetherness, composure and effort--and I think it chiefly has to fall on the manager(s) in place. Not an individual talent of the roster issue I don't think for the most part. Allowing in single CL matches for Liverpool to score 4, Roma scoring 3, PSG to score 4, Juv to score 3--I don't care whether home or away--to me more telling than not scoring in the awal legs. Or maybe they are part of the same story--we get blitzkrieged away and lack a composed and fierce response as a collective.

Semedo-Pique-Lenglet-Alba
---Frenkie-Vidal-Arthur
--Messi-Griezmann-Neymar

..smells like a treble regardless of Madrids rebuild

realistically though no chance we get both Griez and Neymar.

Dont get that Vidal obsession. He was probably our best midfielder vs Liverpool, but still had zero quality on the ball. Busquets as DM>>>Vidal.

Hahahaha this is true. Besides Puyol and Koeman we haven't had any truly elite defenders until Pique and Mascherano

Catradio are reliable. If this is true, we should expect a lot of exits this summer. I just hope Dembele isnt one of them.
Suarez must be shitting his pants reading this news

Suarez ain't going nowhere. If Ney is returning Suarez and Messi are untouched in any capacity.

Imo, mental strength.
Our players are complacent.
They KNOW that they are probably the best on paper.
Also, when we play La Liga, there is NO sudden death matches.

So, our players KNOW that even if we lose against Atletico in the 8th round of La Liga, nothing will happen.
Even if we'll lose 3 matches in a row in Novemeber, nothing will happen. We will still win La liga since the other teams will drop even more points.

So, we are used to that: "no big deal" kind of an attitude.
If we win=fine.
If we lose=no big deal, we will fix that in upcoming Months.

So, there is never a sense of urgency and we don't have sudden death or life/death matches.

Imo, this is why we are able to win 5 times in a row against Atletico in La Liga=because there is no pressure. And when there is no pressure, our players play freely and their technical quality is then enough for wins.
But then, people are surprised when we win against Atletico in La Liga and yet we lose like scared kids in a CL.
And people say: that was a fluke, bad night, "one of those matches".

Imo, it isn't.
That is a true current Barca.
We are masters of La Liga matches, and winning against smaller teams and winning in group stage and similar.
When it matters, other teams (who are usually weaker than us), play with 120% motivation.
While we have: no big deal and no urgency attitude from La Liga.

And then you have:
Atletico 0:1 in 2014
Atletico 0:2 in 2016
Psg 0:4, Juve 0:3 in 2017
Roma 0:3 in 2018
Liverpool 0:4 in 2019

Goal difference: 0:17
That can't be a coincidence.
Also, this didn't happen only under EV, so we can't blame only him.

Our players are naturally "good boys" and not real fighters.
That style worked only when we were by far the best in the world. So, we were winning INSPITE of having a team filled with choirboys.
Today, when we are not twice as stronger as all other teams, we are eaten alive by teams whoa re more motivated, who are more "into a match", who have a more fighting attitude.

Also, it doesn't help that our captain, even though the best player in the world, is somewhat mentally fragile and can get MIA and went into a sulking mode in away matches when we are in troubles.
Our other captains lately were other choirboys Iniesta and Busi, which doesn't help either.

Some will say as always: Bbz, you are an idiot. Football is a sport of a skill and technique and not a sport of fighting.
True, but on top of technique, you need at least some fighting spirit.
Now, compare a fighting spirit of Liverpool's guys and our guys at Anfield. Vidal was the only guy who was able to offer some aggression and fight.
But he played with 10 other pussies.

So, imo, our away-matches problems are a mix:
1. of: no big deal attitude from La Liga where we will always win in the end
2. a nature of our players who are more like too nice guys and we usually have zero or one dirtier players or fighters
3. our captain/leader is a quiet guy Messi. And our coach is a quiet guy EV.

We are basically a team of quiet guys who never fight, yell, scream and fight for their life.
We sulk and watch how the other team is fighting for their life, at our expense.

And then we just say and lie to ourselves with: it will be better next year.
Yes it will. We will lose 0:5 in semis in the next year...
