Nothing wrong in what Laporta said, the club offered him exit where it will be better for him. Many reports already he was offered for free exit where we save money.
So there isn't an argument of "he is looking for himself " as he will get his sign in bonus and big salary either way.
So him staying put hurts financially for both the club and himself (unless agreement with next club is below current salary).
Also, termination of contract can be done unilaterally without extra burden on the club, he will just get bad same money he was going to be paid if he was under contract in the same time frame. But it just doesn't make sense to do it.
