Philippe Coutinho

He just slows up play by doing so many unnecessary stepovers etc. Even his team mates look like they don’t know if and when he’s gonna release the ball.

I’ve said it before but price to performance ratio he was the biggest flop in Barca history. He had some great moments at Liverpool mainly in the 16/17 season and the half season before he came here but he was overpriced because teams knew Barca had 222m to burn and the board were desperate to save face after losing one of MSN.

Odd thing is that he started well here in the first months. But got into a really bad period last season, and from there, he didn't have the mentality and the will to turn his situation around. And that gesture towards the fans after the United golazo showed how much of a poor mentality he has. As if scoring a single goal proved everyone wrong lol. He's supposed to put in performances like that weekly almost, not once every 10 games.

His first few months he played in the midfield or as a wide midfielder in a 4-4-2, to be fair to him.

His shit form started when he was moved to the LW and after that it's just been a negative spiral.

He probably has a weak mentality, but again playing him out of position doesn't help. Clueless Valverde playing him as winger, while it's obvious that he doesn't have the required pace for the position.
He was supposed to replace Iniesta and play in his position, actually he was very good in his first games playing there.
I blame for this Valverde again.

He was good in the first half season but that’s it’s. He wasn’t fantastic or extraordinarily or anything.

The only time I remember thinking he played world class was his debut against Espanyol. Do you remember ?

I get he's not an LW and Valverde's system isn't the greatest but there are things that simply frustrate the hell out of me is just inability to not keep it simple when needed.

Sometimes he takes to many touches and once to hog the ball to try and be the hero by blasting it to Row-z. It's like someone said yesterday, he just seems like a guy that wants it all to be about him.

We aren't talking about some young and raw as hell 20-year-old winger, we are talking about a guy who is 27 years old here.

Yes, but this negative spiral showcased his poor mentality and frankly... lack of guts and professionalism. You expect a player like him to show some kind of pride and bounce back, not stink the place up acting like a petulant child.

In his case, a lot is wrong with him, never mind the management from Valverde which most of us know it's 50 shades of shit.

The problem isn't that Valverde used him as a winger. The problem is that he just couldn't adapt to FCB's game. He was poor in decision making and execution most of the time . I mean neither Villa nor Henry heck not even Etoo or Gudjonsen were wingers but they managed to contribute to the team from there. He has no excuses but should be given a second chance as there were a lot of money spent on him.

His best game was against Levante when he was playing LW, remember the game when everyone was saying he is our LW of the future with Dembele as RW?
And he played half of the games at the right side, and was still better than last season.
I mean we can argue all what we want whether he is better as AM/LM/LW, but sure thing he is more natural on those positions that right side, where he showed more than last season.

Exactly.
I often read that Coutinho was brilliant his first 6 months. He was good, but nothing mind blowing to be honest. Our midfield that year had guys like Gomes and Paulinho. A fresh Coutinho who was in the best form of his career looked impressive next to those guys. But he really wasn't that impressive. He was good though, now he completely sucks and Barca won't get anything from this guy. He needs to be sold.

He is quite an uninspiring player even in midfield. He reacts slowly, sometimes needs more than a touch to control the ball, is completely unaware of surrounding opposition players, and lets go off the ball too late spends too much time dribbling and doesn't time the plays well.

When I first saw him against Espanyol I was certain we had someone to replace Iniesta. God does he stink now. Apparently he came here to score a couple of curling shots from outside the box and call it a day.

Coutinho has never had what it takes to be a Barca midfielder. He's a dribbler at his core and his first instinct on the ball is always to initiate a 1v1. Head down all the time, not a pass and move player or good at linking up. Iniesta was a great pass and move player and excelled at incorporating several teammates into his plays. He was always on the move off the ball.

Coutinho is much more like a budget Neymar. Much slower, just as stubborn about getting stuck in useless circular dribbles, he even passes less than Neymar. Coutinho looks to shoot after his runs more than Neymar does. His vision is not great and he needs time/deliberation to set up his final balls like Fabregas rather than having a fluid passing game and 360 vision. You could also liken him to a worse Isco. Worse footwork/dribbling for sure, and Isco is a much better playmaker overall.

Can't spread the pitch with pace/elite wing play like Dembele, can't penetrate the middle like Messi, can't pass/move like Arthur or Frenkie. Can't do shit. He sucks, and he's better off playing under simpler coaches who can afford to build around his weaknesses.

Very well said and that's why I think he could work great for Chelsea for example. Today they had Barkley do the Coutinho job and he is God awful. They are desperate for a player like Coutinho. Budget Neymar is a good player for many other teams but not for Barca.
