Quique Setien

Sacking Valverde mid-season was never the right decision.

I think the board only really wanted Xavi if they were to replace EV before the season's end, but made a mess of the whole situation by making their pursuit of Xavi and their flight to Qatar to recruit him so public. We had known for a while that most of the board other than Bartomeu wanted EV out after the Liverpool collapse. They were likely the ones that leaked us meeting Xavi to the press to get EV out ASAP. After that point Valverde had been undermined to the point where he could not continue and the club rushed to find a replacement before the next league match and unsurprisingly we ended up with a gaffer like Setien.

All in all the coaching transition was handled as badly as humanly possible. I don't think the players appreciated how the club conducted themselves at all either, especially considering they were quite fond of EV.

This is very true.
Club should handled EV situation better. He should have been dismissed last summer and players would have understand that, allowed new manager to have input in signing and have preseason with the team.
But then, keeping him, undermining him and going after him from some members, firing him in such manner and cherry on cake was sporting director saying that Setien was his 4th choice?
I don't like Setien, but he was set for failures

Supposedly Pique was mocking Sarabia as well.

What a sad state of affairs.

This lot would have loved EV as he would never dare raise his voice or try to tell them what to do.

These players deserve to win fuck all.

I feel sorry for Setien And Sarabia. They want to play good football and use tactics but the players think they know better and won't listen. This season will end in disaster.

Season will end in disaster and the next coach is rolled in..... but nowhere near a top coach as those know it is impossible tasks to manage this lot.

You're welcome
This is what happens if you have too many veterans in the team and no younger players still eager to prove themselves.

Too bad Bartomeu is a gutless piece of shit that want to ride out his term.

But if he's going to finish it out until 2021 and no one from this board will stand for elections as reported, he really has nothing to lose if starts rebuilding the team now.

But then again you need to have an actual sporting plan for that and a clue about football.

Xavi was smart enough to turn down the job at the time. He himself knows that the only way forward is to clean house, starting with some of these entitled seniors.

The current atmosphere in the dressing room is too toxic for a new manager to deal with. Alot of the players carry about themselves with open arrogance. They don't want anyone shouting instructions at them.

It's no surprise they were so fond of EV because quite frankly he was a cuck.

I would not get carried away with massive hopes for some successful project post-2021 elections. Everyone in contention for the title of President is a politician and nothing they say should be trusted. The first and most important priority for all politicians is winning elections and wielding power. Everything else comes second.

Easiest way right now to win is by playing on the nostalgia of the past and promise a return to those better days. You will hear like likes of Font and Laporta harp on and on about La Masia, youth, attractive football, Barca DNA etc. Talking is easy, action and especially results are the difficult part.

I don't have much hope for any of them. I am open to being pleasantly surprised though.

There's not going to be an instant way back to being perennial winners and the best team in the World, but they have to try to rebuild the team regardless and that can only happen with a proper structured setup.

What a fucking shit bunch of people these seniors are. They may be legends but they are going to leave the club in a very poor way.
People talk about tactics but the first thing that needs to be adjusted is the attitude of these pricks Messi included. They think they own the club. They are fucking employees.

The rebuild will happen naturally when the likes of Suarez, Pique, Busquets, Alba and yes Messi decide to leave or retire. No President and very few managers would try to force these players out. We are at the mercy of them until that time comes.

How long it takes to build the club back up to legitimate CL contenders after that is anyone's guess. Could be anywhere from 2-10+ years. Good player recruitment and finding a world class manager that suits the club involves skill, but also a lot of luck.

Pep was a B-team promoted manager and turned into one of the best coaches of all-time. Chances of that happening again to any club are very low. La Masia produced half a dozen all-time talents for free. That will not happen again in 100 years no matter how much importance you give to it.
