Sacking Valverde mid-season was never the right decision.
I think the board only really wanted Xavi if they were to replace EV before the season's end, but made a mess of the whole situation by making their pursuit of Xavi and their flight to Qatar to recruit him so public. We had known for a while that most of the board other than Bartomeu wanted EV out after the Liverpool collapse. They were likely the ones that leaked us meeting Xavi to the press to get EV out ASAP. After that point Valverde had been undermined to the point where he could not continue and the club rushed to find a replacement before the next league match and unsurprisingly we ended up with a gaffer like Setien.
All in all the coaching transition was handled as badly as humanly possible. I don't think the players appreciated how the club conducted themselves at all either, especially considering they were quite fond of EV.
This is very true.
Club should handled EV situation better. He should have been dismissed last summer and players would have understand that, allowed new manager to have input in signing and have preseason with the team.
But then, keeping him, undermining him and going after him from some members, firing him in such manner and cherry on cake was sporting director saying that Setien was his 4th choice?
I don't like Setien, but he was set for failures
