Rafinha Alcantara

As others already said, there is a huge step from performing good at Barca B to performing good at some midtable team.
And then, there is a huge step from being good in midtable team to being good enough for Barca.

95% of players never successfully cross the 2nd step.
Again, not everyone can play in Barca, the best, or one of 2-3 best teams in the world.

Again, Rafinha doesn't look like a new Xavi or Iniesta currently.
And these guys were much better even when they were much younger than him.

Xavi? The same Xavi that alot of Barca fans wanted to sell just the season before Guardiola became our manager?

Lol Spain were no where near what they are now when Xavi was 22. And Xavi also bloomed later for a midfielder. Like someone said, we were willing to let him go before Pep. Rafinha just needs that time and a manager to give him what Pep gave Xavi.

Xavi was always a regular player since he first he bursts to the scene something which I cant say the same of Rafinha. But to be fair to Rafinha he's definately not a CM, his positioning is horrendous

Xavi was our best midfielder before Rijkaard, during Rijkaard, in Pep's era and probably after Pep.

You'll see how crap our midfield will be once when he will be gone.
Xavi was Barcelona, and the perfect man/brain for Tiki Taka and all of our success.

Anyway, lol for fans who wanted to sell 28 year old Xavi.
Luckily, fans weren't in charge. Pep would never won anything without the brain of Tiki Taka, aka Xavi.

Lol at people saying that Xavi was a nobody before Pep came, in fact Xavi was always a quality player and transformed into legendary status under Pep

¡Gr?*cies Xavi!
Tbf, all our midfielders have looked woeful under Lucho except for Xavi. I want to see him play under another coach before judging him.

judging by this thread you can tell rafinha lost the ball 20 times and scored an own goal

in my opinion it was his best game for barca so far and he was decent. nothing against him considering our current state in midfield especially

High expectations and bad approach are hurting him big time. Still he hasn't shown much of what we all saw of him in Barca B or before, but I'm still hoping that Lucho will get it right soon.

Tbh, he didn't impress me yet this season. However, you have to wonder, what happened between previous season where he got elected most promising youngster, and this season. So, we'll need to give him time, plus it's up to the team to play better which will make the youngsters more confident and at ease when getting fielded. Same for Munir actually, it's not a gift to get playing time at the age of 19 when the team is playing awful...

No he wasn't the best CM during Rijkaard days ,that goes for Deco by some margin .we even won CL with Xavin injured and Deco &MVB playing in midfield and they was great midfield pairing ,and being best midfielder b4 Rijkaard isn't saying much,we were crap
Xavi was good starter at Barca for so long b4 Pep that is true but he was never considered superstar until the 2008 Euro performance followed by Pep's tiki-taka

Nope, that was Deco. But Xavi was still quality and that's kinda my point. As much as Barca fans like to brag about our tradition to give young player a chance, very few fans actually supports our academy players when they are still young. They will be all over the moon of they are performing, but if the young players has 1 or 2 bad games, the fans want them to be sold. That's what happend with Xavi, and what is happening with Rafinha right now. I mean, Rafinha was great for Barca B and great for Celta last season, so he is talented, yet some of our fans wants him to be sold because he has not been that great, even though he has only played like 4 or 5 games so far this season and has just come back from a injury that put him on the side line for over a month.

Heck, you just need to see how some are treating Messi to see how fickle our fans are. Messi was great against Ajax, yet for having an average game today, by no means was he the worst, and yet they want him to bench him. Or just look at last season. If Messi would have been any player, including a player like T.Henry, Raul, Totti or even C.Ronaldo, no one would have said that we should have sold him based of his individual season, yet because it was Messi, alot of people said that his time was over and that we should sell him before it's to late..
