Visca el filòsof!
I think there's a big difference given that madrid are scared the guy could die if he steps onto a pitch again, no doubt leaving them open to lawsuits and accusations of carelessness.

In all fairness however tragic DLR's case may be the club can't be expected to pay him indefinitely.
Agree ,needless to say most ex-players end up coaching so it's not like he will be jobless ..we always took care of our own and Ruben will be no different it's the question of terminating his presence as a pro-football player
I had written a nice riposte to beast regarding the canales fee but then I saw that gneg had dealt with that admirably. so... good job, gneg!

no, but if he still believes there's a chance he can play again then they should stick with him. it should be HIS decision to call it a day, not the clubs.

how long was gabi out for? did we EVER lose faith in him? de-register him? all we ever did was move him from #3 to #18 which was his request anyway!

it's pathetic, tbh, and if we did the same I would be embarrassed.
How is Gabi case even remotely related to De La Red ?? we are taking about a fatal disease not some knee or muscle injury!!

It can't be his decision it's the medical experts decision , no one will have blood on his hands not after Seville & Espanyol losses and lately Sanchez .

and lol @ Canales ... coming from you it's really hard to digest ;)

There is absolutely no way anyone could argue the club's decision. It will perhaps burn in his heart forever, but at least he will be there for his child and wife.

LOL@raed.

golden.

look, I'm not saying they should let him play ffs.

my point is, he's obviously not ready to give up just yet, so why should real give up on him?

His heart condition still is a mystery .
the club spared no money in diagnosing what happened , neither the doctors in Spain,France,Germany or the USA were able to find a reason .
they even did Genetic tests and not a single doctor could sign a discharge for Ruben

who would take the responsibility ? not the club , not the insurance company.. if something happen to him everyone will blame Real not the player

Gnegneri

immaculately conceived
Why don't Real just pay DLR's salary till 2013 as his contract stipulates and then says: "this is it, Ruben. We will offer you something in our management but we don't want to take the risk any further on the pitch."

Cause if Real deregs him, he cannot play in Spain anymore for another team?

As CA said , you simply can't pay him for 3 years without playing it's stupid and his contract (like any other player contract ) stipulate the money is paid versus playing which he can't do .

He already got his coaching badge and his future will be in our youth team , i think he was taking a million a year which is a lot to be paid for a player who is not playing

We already paid his salary for 1 & half year and deregistrating him is what the labor panel will decide based on medical reports

Why should manangers get paid off when sacked? Contract Law, it's not Rubens own choice not to play.

cause he wasn't sacked so Real didn't break his contract
he was sick for non footballing reason.. when a player dies his club don't pay his entire contract Ry .
It's also not Real fault that he has some weird heart condition , i think the club paid a lot already in salary & medical bills for him to see the best doctors in 5 different countries

I guess if nothing else the club have lost the value of him as an asset. I kind of agree with the Madrid stance, it's unfortunate, but at the end of the day it's a business not a charity.

That said if De la Red opposes this in anyway it will be a PR disaster for Madrid, so it might be worth just keeping him on the books to avoid that.
