Very good game, my only concern is that he was rather meh aerially (defensively) today and without Pique, him and Masch were exposed a few times when Sevilla crossed into the box. This might become a problem when we face teams that are aerially extremely strong and cross a lot into the box, such as Real Madrid and Bayern. Expect him and Luis Enrique to work on this, since Mathieu can not be counted on given his ailing health.

Don't think it has much to do with Lucho's preference. It's just that Pique and Umtiti haven't played together so far while Masche and Umtiti played last 30 minutes against Sampdoria so they already had some understanding between them. Another reason is probably that Masche is physically better prepared than Pique right now. But there is no doubt that Umtiti will be paired with both Pique (I'm also looking forward to Betis match to see how they'll work together) and Masche in future.

I liked that he stayed calm after seeing yellow card and didn't let it affect the rest of his performance yesterday, one thing that drives up my blood pressure is seeing Suarezs, Jordis or Busquets hounding the ref trying to persuade him into taking back his decision like a gaggle of morons who never watched a football match before. Basically asking to get some more from where the first one came from

Unfortunately that's one aspect one either has or hasn't.

Solution is to only play him paired with a bigger cb like Pique.
