Sergi Roberto

He was a bit reserved imo.
Maybe he got instructions to pick his runs as he stood deeper than Xavi most of the time.
It's certainly easier to deal with Thiago departure when I see Roberto emerging in this Barca.

Emerging into what? A good squad player? Because IMO, he will never be more than that.

He might not be as flashy as Thiago but he makes less mistakes. He pretty much always chooses the right pass, a trait which is vital for a Barcelona midfielder and one which Thiago didn't have. Watching Thiago the few times he's played for Bayern so far this season it seems he is still making silly errors throughout matches, he will have a couple moments of brilliance followed by a couple of sloppy passes etc. I'd say Thiago is probably the more 'special' talent but Sergi is more reliable & solid and actually suits Barca more.

And you got this from all the minutes that Sergi played this season against the likes of Cartagena and Celtic?

He's a hard working cantera player that is hard not to like

I actually used to dislike him a lot when he played for the B team because it looked like he was never there to take the team on his shoulders..but with the first team, where there are others to run the show, he never looks out of place. For me he's a good replacement for Keita(more than Song will ever be).

Did you really think Iniesta, Xavi or even Puyol would become what they are today?

All of them have one thing in common with Roberto, and that's hard work... I know not everyone will become a superstar, but in the end Roberto's hard work will pay off and he will have his place in this team...

1. I don't think that I said that Sergi is not a hard worker.

2. With Xavi and Iniesta it was clear from the beginning that they are special..of course nobody knew that they are going to be legends of this game, but they were special. Your best example is Puyol, but at that time Barcelona didn't had the 2nd highest earnings in the world. An even better example would have been Pedro, who nobody thought that he will mark so many special moments for the club. And yes, when you think at him the first thing that comes to mind is hard work..but he also had luck and a coach that trusted in him.

3. I didn't said that Sergi doesn't have a place in our team, quite the contrary. But this is just my opinion based on what I saw from Sergi with the B team and the few minutes he got with the first team. Though in the end my opinion is worthless because all that matters is what the coach believes and what the player can give to this team.

Someone said he reminded them of Deco last night and that is exactly who he reminded me off come to think of it. So we have the new Gerrard, Lampard, Kaka and Deco all in one coming soon!

I understand...I've long wondered if he's simply a system player rather than a bonafide talent...The conclusion I've come to, particularly under Eusebio, is that we can conclude little from the cantera players with the B team...Even Rafinha, for me, was very average a lot of the time with B but clearly he is not an average player

As for Roberto, I'm curious what more he can bring with his game because I really feel it's hard to get an idea of what his potential may be

Performance for the B team is not a good predictor for how players will fare with the first team.

What I like about Roberto is that he fits perfectly into the Barca style. And he is more aggressive with his passing and shooting than either Xavi or Iniesta. He has a natural feel for poaching, which is a skill that is needed on the current team. He might be better at pressing than Xavi, Iniesta or Cesc.

We can't be dissatisfied when the young players don't have all the skills of the established players. No one does, we will never see them again. What Roberto really needs now is the luck that Barta and Montoya have had this year. He just needs a significant injury to at least one of the guys playing ahead of him, so he can show he can be a strong, regular rotation player right now.

So sad that "big names" have to get injured for youngsters to get chances to show their worth.

you would play your youngsters infront of your "big names" daily?

If Tata played younsters and they were to mess up or flop people would be on his case for not easing them in. It isnt all about talent , its about many things and patience in one of them. Its not about thier form now , but their form forever. An example is Bartra. He was here in around 2008/ 09 and only now is he shining. He has been eased in , and he is now more comfortable. Although i dont think he is ready to be a starter yet. The way youth players are nowadays , is that if someone in the first team gets injured they are ready to step in and do the job. They do it really well and they become squad players.. before they start getting chances ... then maybe a few season after they have proved themselves .. they start. Sorry to say but Bartra's form could be just a good spell and when he starts getting responsibility and playing against top top teams he starts to degrades. Tata has a massive gem in his hands and has to play them right. If Messi wasnt played right or if he had been rushed he would have never been as good as he is now. never

There's not need to exaggerate Roberto's play. He was not great last game, he was just good. Roberto is the type of player who's not perhaps going to give you those stand out performances, but what he is, is a very steady player. A lot of what he does does not show on stat sheets because his play is about movement, energy, covering spaces left by other players, high work rate, etc. His game is very sacrificial, and that is precisely why he is good for this team. He brings what this team has lost.

IMO he is not a game changer, but he supports other players so that they in turn can impact the game to a greater degree. He might improve with time and experience so that he can be more of an individual impact on games, but right now he is not that. Right now he is a support player, and that is perfectly OK.

He's play right now, IMHO, is somewhat like a more offensive version of Keita, with obviously much more upside. He's a good player.

Maybe..but still JDS and Rafinha had better performances with the B team than Sergi and they showed their talent from time to time. I never felt the same with SR though.
