Spanish FA, FC Barcelona sanctioned for international transfers of minors

That's a different matter. Fifa should be punishing all clubs that broke the rules, but this still makes no difference for Barça. The board broke the rules. Rosell asked to change the law or be excused, and this was stupid from him. Too much confidence on something that was not going to be decided by him. He should had just followed the rules.

Breaking the rules is wrong, but I don't see there is anything with wanting to change the rules. It is not a black and white, right or wrong issue at hands here. We haven't done anything unethical, albeit illegal.

Are we essentially going to throw the La Masia model out the window just to comply with the current rules? Are we going to deny so many young kids' dream to go to La Masia?

Seems like unnecessary stress going through all the possible outcomes and scenarios. Only time will tell how this plays out.

How the hell did so many incompetent morons get to control something as great as FC Barcelona? I mean we have absolute idiots running our club, its a sick joke.

It's impossible to have so many idiots in powerful positions unless someone wanted to ruin the club right? How many times did cules try to get Rosell sacked and he fought back only to immediately step down once the details of Neymar's deal came out? We still hadn't signed a CB in 3 years and he blew 120+ million on 1 player, the damage was done. Now Fifa is attacking the thing we are World Renowned for... La Masia. Call it another "conspiracy theory" if you want but there is too much smoke on this matter for there not to be fire. After 2008 FC Barcelona changed things, forever. Those who stand to lose a lot on all fronts have to have some type of hand in this. I'm sure Pep had some idea of these situations and that contributed to him leaving as well.

barca's board is rotten to the core, they reek corruption. i hope the team won't suffer damages from it, and when everything is clear people responsible for this must be dealt with. i hope everyone who is involved with barca, players, stuff will speak out and rebel against wrongdoers. barca must stay united

The board knew from the start the ban was one of the possible outcomes of that, still did nothing. So it's actually F you rosell, bartomeu and all the rest.

Instinct, it's in the socios hands now. The referendum for the new stadium is a great opportunity. If they reject it, they'll be showing to not be backing them. We'll have to wait and see.

Yeah, I was reading the timeline of communiques between the club & FIFA over at totalbarca...A few things jumped out...One it looks like the club attempted to lobby for an exception in their case but seemingly didn't follow up or were too naive to prepare for possibly an additional ban/penalty to the one they originally received in February 2013...In this case, the club clearly were either naive or simply incompetent

Of course, FIFA's role in this (We acknowledge they are a corrupt organization) is very suspect...From the timeline you can see it is not at all working with the club but rather acting as a law enforcement agency...The more than 4 months from the time of decision to announcement of penalties will be difficult to explain, especially in light of Barto's paranoid rant yesterday

And it's true, like the idiots who re-elected Bush or Obama back into office, blame rests squarely on the voters/socios...Bothers me obviously because I've consistently said how terrible Rosell was going to be and like a few predicted he would implode the wonderful project that was going on

Also, do people actually believe Barca will sign a lot of players if they have a small window of opportunity due to the appeal? Dreams of 1 GK, 2 CB, 1 CM and 1 ST seem a little far-fetched to me:

- Ter-Stegen transfer might, probably will, go through - that's goalie done.
- Halilovic transfer might, probably will, go through - irrelevant for first team.
- 2 CB, 1 CM and 1 ST - Who exactly are they gonna sign? They don't have enough money and they've already put themselves at a disadvantage at the negotiations table, not to mention they don't even have a proper list of targets. I would be chuffed if they even signed 1 decent CB.

Tough year ahead for Barca. At this point, the best possible transfer would be to the Atletico bandwagon :pep: It's absolutely free, and all it takes is 180 minutes (to watch their two La Liga clashes with Madrid)

Well, the appeal could take a while. It may not be over before the transfer window closes.

Once again the board are found sleeping at the wheel. The best thing that could come out of this is the board gets kicked out and we get someone competent at the helm.

My problem is the club always trying to be Mr Nice Guy. Its been obvious that a lot of outside influences are trying to destabilise the club for some time. Its time to get off the gloves and go after these people. Regarding FIFA sue the fuckers, keep them busy with any sort of delaying tactics. Its shameful that FIFA are going after us for this issue when so many other clubs are doing the same thing.

Also what was FIFA doing when Mourinho EYE GOUGED Tito????? If I did that in a normal situation I would be charged with assault. FIFA are just trying to divert attention away from their own dirt-classic 'Wag the Dog' stuff here. Go after the biggest name club in World Football just to make an example and show that they are some sort of moral beacon for the sport.

I will be surprised if CAS agree with FIFA and we get a ban on trfs for 2 windows. It will probably be reduced but CAS will give us ONE trf window where we cant do anything.

Also I am sure Ter Stegen and Hallalovic trfs will go ahead.

We're in the appeals phase

Interesting comments from the Secretary General of the very dubious RFEF today...As usual, looking like Castilla vs Catalunya

Jorge Perez Arias told SER that the RFEF never accepted the proposed registrations of the players involved.

“The records of the children for which Barca have been sanctioned were processed by the Catalonian Football Federation and we rejected them because they didn’t meet the regulations,” Perez Arias said.

“FIFA said that each case requires the authorization of the players’ status subcommittee and in this case there were no such authorizations.

“We notified the Catalonian Football Federation of this but still they processed the registrations.”

Perez Arias added that in his opinion, the RFEF were fined by FIFA as they are ultimately responsible for the registration of players.
“The rules are very clear but FIFA fined us because we are the ones who are in charge,” Arias noted.

“Barcelona should have applied for authorization in each case and didn’t. We notified the Catalan Federation, who proceeded to issue the records.”

Perez Arias also argued that there is a potential conflict between the laws laid down over the matter by FIFA and those of an individual country.

“Children are protected and you have to understand that FIFA laws are for everyone, but it can be that their rules clash with the particular country,” he pointed out.

Barcelona are appealing the decision and have previously been critical of Arsenal, who signed Fran Merida, Ignasi Miquel and, most notably, Cesc Fabregas, from their youth set-up at a young age.

But Wenger said: “They have not respected the rules. The rule is quite simple, you cannot move the players before the age of 16 unless their parents move for professional reasons, so that of course creates a bit of debate — do the parents move for professional reasons or not?

“In this case, FIFA have judged the parents moved for football reasons and that is why they were banned because they have not respected the rules. At the time they were critical of us, you look at their players, even their players who have come out from their youth academy, people like Andres Iniesta, he came from a very young age from the north of Spain. So they have always scouted people from all over Spain.

Wenger

Not really here to support the board on this one as seems a very grey area.

But for those attacking the board on this - how do you think they should have responded to FIFA on this issue?

Do you think they should have released the young players in question and promised not to break the rules again?

How La Masia model different from boarding school. Sure it's sport academy but it places as much emphasis on academic education as on the sport. Those parents giving their kids a life time opportunity. Never heard parents sending their kids to elite boarding school and the school ask the parents to move to the same city and and for school to find them a job.

this is ridicules.
