Guys, I'd like to know your opinion on the following points:
1) Is FIFA's rule about non-EU minors discrimination?
Some time ago our ex-president Rosell got a lot of criticism because he had said that Barca should sign less foreign (non-EU) youngsters, and more Catalans. A lot of Barca-fans thought this was a very racist/discriminatory thing to say. However, when you think of it, Rosell basically said the same as what's described in the FIFA-rules (non-EU minors can only be signed in exceptional circumstances, so a club has to give precedence to its own nationals).
2) Non-EU minors are allowed to be signed if their parents move to the country for non-football-related reasons.
In the case of Messi for example, both his parents moved to Barcelona and they got offered a job (via the club). So his parents supposedly moved to Barcelona for non-footballing-reasons, which is nonsense of course. But it complies with the FIFA-law. But you can't expect that every parent wants to follow his minor to the foreign country. What do you do when the parents have a good job in their homecountry, and they're unwilling to look for a job in another country (Spain)? Is it morally correct that you forbid the youngster to come, simply because his parents don't want to move to the country?
3) If a minor wants to go to a foreign boarding-school (eg in UK), he's perfectly entitled to do that
Why is a youngster allowed to follow classes at a normal foreign boarding school, but not at a football boarding school like La Masia? Also, why are the laws about that for football different than for other sports (eg basketball, handball, ...)?
4) Since 2013, Barca have tried that FIFA modifies its infamous article 19, and they will continue to strive for that.
They're asking that "high-profile" academies that adhere to a certain standard (not only La Masia, but also academies of Madrid and ManUtd and Tottenham etc), are exempted from that rule 19. Do you guys think that's a reasonable request? Or should the rule be applied to any academy, regardless whether the academy is shit or high-profile (Barca invests 15M per year in its academy for example)?
