Of all the centerbacks mentioned vast majority of them falls under Pique profile (so we dont need them).. Only Vermaelen comes closer to Puyol (Marquinhos i dont know, have not followed)..
You should consider that the CB we should buy should not only be a new Puyol, but also be substantially better than Mascherano. And i dont see this from the names listed.
Mascherano has been playing quite good as a CB in Barca, especially last 1,5 years -apart from minor CB inexperience mistakes here and there...
And of course Vs Bayern the problem was not our CBs.. We got exposed on the counter numerous times.. When you get exposed on the counter, even the best CBs and GK cannot save your ass every time.. Guys you just dont understand our football style, or you have started watching football lately..
Please download the games of Pep era and see how the pressing works..

We all know about the pressing game. Did you not read the previous posts. It cant be done year in year out. It also requires a very special motivator to get the players "up" for it all the time.

Oh it is, but it is certainly not in any way equivalent to the rest of England. I mean, there's the City and then there's the rest - just look at the property prices over the span of past 4-5 years.

Yeah, property is expensive. Much better city than Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool etc. :D

Indeed. London is unique. One of the greatest cities in the world and certainly worlds apart from anything else in England.

It is a great city whose profile was raised by the Olympics last year.

An erection is an excellent metaphor for a High-pressing game. You simply can't keep it up all of the time.

Let's just put our team on Viagra, is that a prohibited substance btw?

So all the aerial challenges we lose is because we fail in the pressing game?
And you should also try to download Pep era game ,we still had a gr8 defense who helped a lot ,It is a team work and blaming it just for defenders only might not be right ,but putting it just on the fail of midfield to press is just absloutly wrong

Actually ,it is reported many times that many sport around the world use it prior to the games ,and it isn't against any rules :party1:

Most people dont seem to understand.THE HIGH INTENSITY PRESSING STYLE HAS BEEN OUR GREATES T BLESSING IN THE SHORT RUN BUT A CURSE IN THE LONG RUN. It is simply impossible to maintain that level of pressing match in-match out. You either need a massive squad where you can rotate the players or you change 75% of the squad every 3 years. It is like Rafa Nadal. Tremendous intensity-physical and mental. He was on top for a short time where he blew everyone away. However his style simply wasnt sustainable-it was bound to lead to a physical or mental blowout. The pressing will only come back when we get an infusion of new blood and a manager who can motivate.

I honestly think our side is TOO small physically and weak too. Our 05-06 side would have given the current Bayern side a run for their money or would have beaten them over 2 legs. Either way that side wouldnt have been blown away. Guystantly like Puyol (who was peaking), Marquez, Deco, Van Bommel, Edmilson even Ronnie and Eto were pretty strong physically. They were also less predictable. We need new blood and most of all we need change at the top. Rosell and Zubi and Tito are a bad version of the three amigos. Tito wants Silva yet the club are pushing Hummels. Give the coach what he wants and leave him to it-simple.

I'm not too sure of that.

Given how fast things change and managers are being hired and sacked, I don't think a club should give the coach everything he wants and the power that comes with it.
Maybe things don't work, you sack him and now you've got a team full of guys that he wanted.
The next guy certainly has his own ideas and wants other players meaning trying to get rid of some current players(certainly for a lower price then the one you've paid) and investing even more.

Thats why the club should have it's own identity(like Barca has), work together with the coach regarding transfers but shouldn't give him all the power.

That's something Manchester United was able to do with Ferguson and Arsenal is still able to do with Wenger.
But pretty much no one else.

BTW: I think signing Rooney would make us look like a fool.
He's not even a real striker anymore and was used at central midfield quite often, given Unites lack of creativity and injury problems at that position.

It isn't that simple ,the coach is asking something the club can't do ,I want Tito to have more power as I think he didn't have any in the last summer ,but he can't be a stubborn who doesn't understand what the club can afford and what they can't
He should understand the market more tbh to get the respect of the board
remember we might need to break the all time record for highest transfer for a defender to get Silva ,that isn't gonna happen

True, London is my home away from home, spend a lot of time there. In fact I feel more at home in London then I do in my own town.

Is this the London forum? It could be me tho'. Maybe i entered the wrong forum ?!

ON topic

It's very simple. 2 CB's, GK and Neymar. Maybe an other striker if Villa leaves. That's all.
Everything has been said already aswell. It's better if we get Hummels (for the long run). Silva will be a big immediate boost but will cost a LOT more and he's older.

Barcelona's pressing game was just as hard as it ever was under Pep in the first half of the season. If anything, Tito's was most likely even more demanding in that aspect. They didn't stop in games when they were probably winning 5-0 against.. Levante, where they could have afforded to just take there foot off the gas more. In hindsight, it's ended up being a wrong move by Tito to play with that much intensity in every fixture, but then that early season form practically won La Liga.

If you listen to Rooney speak, if you judge him by how he behaves off the field, sure, he is a dumbass. If you judge him solely by how he plays, he is as close to a perfect Barca forward/midfielder as anyone not currently on the team. The guy plays super hard both offense and defense, whatever he does off the field he is a model of fitness.

The only two current players I would not trade for Rooney even up are Messi and Iniesta. Not that he is better than Xavi, but he is a lot younger.

Would Rooney be better than Bale? The big problem with Rooney is that his best positions are where Messi and Iniesta play. Bale would start on the left and roam everywhere, this team could really use that. Plus his long-range shooting. Of course, CR7 would be better, particularly if the rules would change to allow one ball each for him and Messi.

Barca could spend very serious money this summer, for top talent. Some budget is left over from this year, some valuable players could be sold, almost all the 2014-15 budget could be spent early.

Indeed.

He's a dumbass, he won't be able to grasp the Spanish/Catalan language/culture and he'll move to Benidorm to avoid home sickness and become an even more bloated fat ass with a drink problem.

Can't say I'm quite as big a fan of Rooney , as you are :)
