I think there a difference. Both Özil and Khedira can at least interact with each other. Whereas Hummels (should he join) would be on his own.

But Hummels is better at picking up languages. He seems way more intelligent to me than the average football player.

It's not just about learning the language. It's also about a German being alone in Barcelona i.e. homesick.

What gives you that impression?

Besides, picking up a language is not a sign of intelligence. Podolski can converse very well in English and he is about as thick as it gets :D

I have never had trouble picking up languages, having grown up bilingually ;)

It depends on the language and as long as the team does not speak Catalan, I can see Hummels adapt quite quickly. Özil and Khedira managed, as well, as Özil is not the most intelligent player when it comes to IQ (and neither is Hummels, imo; there are players who are more intelligent than he).

As far as can see the team have their own groups at Barça i.e. 1) Puyol, Cesc & Pique 2) Iniesta & Valdes 3) Alves, Alexis and Adriano 4) Messi, Pinto & Mascherano 5) Xavi, Busquets, Pedro & Alba? etc. How welcome would this complete outsider (Hummels) be at Barça?

He can? How do you know that?

He said he was taking Spanish courses back in 2010 in a Sportstudio interview. I don't have a direct link to the interview itself anymore but Dortmund fans are talking about that interview here: http://forum.bvb-freunde.de/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=16741#p444146

Nicht so schön: Mats lernt spanisch und sagt auch offen, dass er gerne mal in Spanien spielen würde.

Or here: http://archiv.bvb-forum.de/index.php?id=972960

You are welcome. :pep:

Since when is speaking a language one of the priorities to sign for a club? I mean seriously.. some of you are making it sound like Hummels is an 8 year old kid who could feel alone here just because there isn't a German in our squad
You know it's not impossible for a Spanish guy and a German dude to become friends.

He wouldn't fit, I think, and it does not have anything to do with the language barrier (Song got over that pretty quickly, it seems, when he saw how Dani dresses :D). He comes across a tad too self-confident and not humble enough, which is something that I like about the Barca- players.

@ Ursegor
Cheers, mate :)

It's just Youngie tbh. He's just scared that Hummels' ballplaying-playmaking skills will prove to be superior to Cesc's.

You head it from me first ;)

Do you know that Barça have only had 1 German footballer in the history of the club? (Bernd Schuster)
