Oh, I read somewhere that Iniesta is studying English. Does that mean that he is flirting with a transfer to the PL? :D

Oh, that's interesting :) Thanks for the info, I was not aware of that.

Whereas real madrid have had 8 Germans paying for the club since being founded:

Stielike, Illgner, Netzer, Breitner, Schuster, Ozil, Khedira, Metzelder

Ah, Metze  Pity he didn't properly make it at Madrid, I really like him.

Illgner was the first goalie that I was aware of in Germany :D He went to the German version of I'm a celebrity a couple of years ago.

C'mon learning the language and speaking the language fluently are completely different. Plus Hummels would need to be learning Catalan as well as Spanish...

He wants to play football. Not become the governing mayor of Cataluña.

I'm sure he could get by just fine. Or do you think every foreign Barca player in history is/was fluent in Catalan? Or every foreign player in the PL is fluent in English?

If Hummels could speak Catalan it'd make him more accepted/respected at Barça IMO.

And I'm just ignoring Uresegor: all his posts are too sarcastic...

I'd ship him back to Barca :D

The language barrier has never been a problem for really good players and if they want to, they will attend language courses etc (like Özil and Khedira, though they are still shy of speaking Spanish in public, or Podolski who probably attended a language course before his move to Arsenal).

It is about the attitude, and I cannot see Hummels to fit. Plus, there is the problem that him and Piqué are just too similar for him to be an asset for the defense, especially if Valdes leaves this summer and a goalie unfamiliar with the Barca-style is playing. You cannot have a new CB and a new goalie in one season, it would be a disaster in the making.

Nobody can learn new languages, it's practically impossible

It's not just learning new languages. It's also about "fitting" into a club like Barça and being "homesick" or not. Hummels would miss all is German pals at Dortmund.

Right, so we're some Elite Club of Catalan-Speaking Royalty, if you're not like us you're not respected. What would matter is his ability to play football, not whether he's good at learning languages or not.
