Ye some players get homesick but its not something you even consider for a second in relation to a transfer unless its a player with a history of serious homesickness and anxiety eg. Navas.

Imagine this scenario.....

>Barca have the option to sign a player.
>They decide not to because they fear the player could be homesick.
>The player moves to another European giant, say Real Madrid, and proves himself as one of the best in the world in his position.
>It emerges in the media that Barcelona passed up the opportunity to sign the player because of this ridiculous fear that he could have been homesick, even though there was nothing to suggest he would be.
>Everybody in the footballing world laughs at Barcelona for this ridiculous f**k up.

I'm laughing at the mere idea

Hummels is hardly likely to move to real madrid with Ramos, Pepe, Varane there. So nice try...

I got the info about former German players playing for Barcelona from some site. They missed Robert Enke.

It doesn't even have to be Madrid, it could be any big club that would swoop in for him in that scenario. It's just silly and paranoid to factor that in to whether we sign someone or not.

I know that. I'm referring to a hypothetical situation regarding any potential transfer using your logic. As XaviMessiGirl said, in the case of Hummels it can be any other top European side that he could sign for.

Do you not agree that the scenario I presented would be a ridiculous decision by the club? Or are you going to ignore the clear point that I am trying to get across to you, keep avoiding the issue and alter your original statement to avoid being wrong in a debate which appears to be common trend with your posts?

They also missed Emil Walter Buckhard, a defender who in his ten years with the club won three Copas and the first Liga.

Oh this is what happens when you dont refresh the page after you go on standby :)

Anyway Barcelona didnt had many Germans but Hans Krankl was an Austrian and they basically have had at least one representative from every corner of Europe. I mean, I doubt Stoichkov spoke an ounce of Spanish before he joined. And its way easier for these modern footballer to pick up whatever language they they have to. Park Ji sun and Tevez were supposed to be the best of friends at Manchester United. How did they communicate ? :eusa_think:. Certainly not English because Teve was terrible at it.

As for being to similar to Pique. He and Marquez played together, when one would go forward the other would stay. Its just a question of coaching and common sense. Vertonghen was my guy but we all know what happened there. Now I just cant see Tottenham selling after a year. We wont afford Hummels either. I would be sad if we sign Vermaelen, another one that never notices if there is a striker behind him. Its funny how Ronaldinho, Yaya Giuly Abidal Marquez all came from the french league but they didnt really go back there since 2007.

How am I wrong? All these matters: language, fitting in to a club etc. should all be taken into account before signing the player especially if there's a Spanish or Catalan defender available who is on Hummels' level.

The "homesickness" is usually a thing south americans are struggling with, I very much doubt an intelligent and well spoken guy like Mats Hummels would have a problem with living and working in a beautiful city like Barcelona.

However, Im also not sure whether he'd geling well with Pique since they are both rather slow. But there arent a lot of "barca quality" centre backs" available right now, so the club might just go with him and hope they work out.
