Our team needs a brave heart like Puyol, someone with the leading instinct. Kompany, Hummels, Vertonghen, any of those can lead any defence.
I'm sure a lot of us were hoping to see Pique in that role, but he doesn't look reliable, to me atleast.

Kompany is leader of the whole team, not just the defense.

Personally would like to see two top CBs come in, I haven't seen Pique be formidable in the defence in a big game for years, he lacks concentration awareness and pace. Although I doubt they would get rid of Pique unless he starts scoring own goals every match.

Unless Kompany forces a move out he would be way too expensive. No harm in trying though. Hummels and Vertonghen are both good in the air, strong and good passers of the ball. Both could be got for 25mill i reckon. So that's 50 altogether, well worth the money for infinitely improving our defence.

The same way Alexis and others forced their moves. If a player really wants to move to club X they can make it happen.
