Virgil van Dijk

Lemme guess? Because of more team trophies, right? So simple:lol:

People are so primitive in rating players.

VVD's only champions league win came after conceding shit tons of goals. Liverpools team press helps him massively in his defensive duties. He hasn't had even half the work to do that others have had to do, to achieve the same things, e.g. a UCL win.

Thiago Silva is better. Baresi said Silva is his heir and Maldini said Silva is better than himself.

An actually good shout finally. People who know ball know how good Thiago Silva is. Silva is right up there.

Otherwise, it's just naming overrated defenders like Pique and Ramos who had the privilege to play in super teams and scored some good goals.

You act as if VVD now is playing for Everton or something.

VVD has been playing for an elite Pool side (top 3-4 in the world) for the last 5 seasons.

Has managed 1 PL and 1 CL.

At the level of the GOAT tier, serial winning matters (if you have an elite team which he's had).

Sorry. Nothing primitive about this.

The supreme highline we play depends a lot on how good the CBs are in 1 on 1 duels against all kinds of attackers.

It also depends on how good Van Dijk is with the ball.

If you see the difference with and without VVD, it's huge. With him we compete for everything. Without him we're a top 4 team. Massively influential figure in a day and age where the game is dominated by attackers.

Calling people primitive when actively engaging and endorsing clout chasing to big up a player only because he plays for a team that does parades for FA cup

Genuinely hope VVD decides to quit that club by time he's 33 and he can win another CL with someone more mature

He's still a fantastic player, who I would welcome here in a heartbeat. Just not the best of modern football imo. Agree he's hugely influential and has the qualities you mentioned.

Pique had an immense level in 14/15. He's a clown these days but here's his stats at his best:

ONLY 37 goals conceded in 60 games across LL (peak RM, AM, Sevilla), CL (PSG, City, Bayern, Juve), and CDR (peak AM).

His help was a declining Masche (great leader but he was getting on in age) and older Alves and Cryba lol.

No, but we aren't as good as Prime Real or Barca. A lot of it is our coach making us look better than the sum of our parts. Whereas Real and Barca were stacked with matchwinners

That Liverpool side can compete against prime Barca and Real.

Take Ramos out of RM, they would lose to Ateltico twice in 2014 and 2016. Pique was injured and you see how Barca's defense collapsed last season.

So they all influence their team, in different ways.

Sorry but if an all time great deffended like a donkey at the only goal in a CL final , he would be shredded to pieces by the press.

From this era ,Thiago , Puyol, Ramos , Vidic, Ferdinand, Terry , would have put maybe Pique but he's been too much of a clown in recent years. Then add another 15 defenders of all time in front and there you have it.
