Virgil van Dijk

Pique had an immense level in 14/15. He's a clown these days but here's his stats at his best:

ONLY 37 goals conceded in 60 games across LL (peak RM, AM, Sevilla), CL (PSG, City, Bayern, Juve), and CDR (peak AM).

His help was a declining Masche (great leader but he was getting on in age) and older Alves and Cryba lol.

He also played at extremely high level in 2018/19 except Anfield of course. I remember how he toyed with Real Madrid in 1-0 win in Laliga. Honestly, not many CB can toy with opponent like that.

Sorry but if an all time great deffended like a donkey at the only goal in a CL final , he would be shredded to pieces by the press.

From this era ,Thiago , Puyol, Ramos , Vidic, Ferdinand, Terry , would have put maybe Pique but he's been too much of a clown in recent years. Then add another 15 defenders of all time in front and there you have it.

You blaming that goal on VVD?

Watch it in real time.

It luckily scraped through his legs. It wasn't even a definite cross/shot.

I actually really rate VVD and Lewa. But Temptation over here is going to make me dislike them very soon at this rate  If I see another "RL9"... :tata:

Same with Pool. Used to have a soft spot for them when United were dominant in EPL, now can't stand their fans :mou:

That 18/19 season from Van Dijk though! You had to watch the games to see how dominant he was.

Trust me he was magic that season.

He should have done much better and take a better pose in the first place. Look how ridiculous he looks defending that pass.

Liverpool as a whole should have done much better and should have fucking beat RM 5-0 or some shit like that , destroying their spirit for the next 10 years.

Will never forget them for losing 2 times in a CL final against RM in recent years.

Not that I was a fan or anything but now they are DEAD to me.

Barely scraped through the UCL group due to the amount of goals you conceded. Not to mention he should have been sent off for nearly breaking Mertens ankle

No doubt VVD was at the top of the world in 2018/19. But the way media and people usually brought that stat he wasn't dribbled past is very annoying. VVD usually didn't throw himself in a duel. Nothing wrong with that though. There was a moment he himself defended against two players by doing that.

The way he defends:

The thing I like the most sbout him is how he doesn't commit easily and knows when the exact right time to bite is.

Probably the only defender who can be in a 2 vs 1 situation and still look favourite most of the time.

If you look in this video, you'll notice he commits only when the moment is perfect. No rush. Composure and concentration. No unnecessary fouls.

The nonchalant arrogance against Mbappe in space makes me go crazy!!

VVD just does not commit. His signature move is to back away and let the forward take a shot. Definitely not one of the best CBs ever
